    This position is a fully OR position, first assist in a pediatric cardiac operating room

     

    The Heart Center at Cohen Children's Medical Center is actively recruiting a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our team and first assist in the operative management of pediatric patients undergoing heart surgery (newborns to young adults). Our program includes the full clinical spectrum of cases including neonatal surgery, mechanical circulatory support, and heart transplants. This position focuses on the operating room as care in the ambulatory and CICU settings is delivered by our team of nurse practitioners

     

    The Heart Center at Cohen Children's Medical Center is the only children's hospital on Long Island that offers comprehensive pediatric/congenital cardiology and cardiac surgical care from pregnancy through infancy, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. At the Heart Center, our team of pediatric cardiologists and cardiac surgeons provides expert diagnosis and care for a full spectrum of heart conditions-from cardiac anomalies and fetal diagnosis to lifesaving surgical or catheterization intervention. Our services include heart transplant and mechanical cardiac support. The Cohen Children's Heart Center provides more than 14,000 inpatient and outpatient visits annually and is part of the largest pediatric teaching hospital in the New York metropolitan area.

     

    Job Responsibility

     

    The primary role is to first assist in the operating room. Participates in performance improvement, research, and educational activities. This role requires call for the operating room at night and on weekends

    + Initiates, documents, and communicates the plan of care and follows up to ensure complete screening and preparation of patients.

    + Performs daily patient rounds.

    + Takes initial patient histories and performs physical examinations.

    + Writes orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests.

    + Interprets laboratory and test results.

    + Confers with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and/or other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care.

    + Upon discharge, notes discharge summaries, prescriptions, and any referrals on patient charts.

    + Informs patients of the necessary post-discharge care instructions.

    + Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions.

    + This role requires on call at night and on weekends (on call is mandatory)

    Job Qualification

    + Bachelor's Degree, required. Graduate of an accredited (Accreditation Review Committee for Physician Assistant Programs ARC-PA) program, required.

    + Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant (PA) by the New York State Department of Education, required.

    + Current NCCPA Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), required.

    + Current BLS certification, required.

    The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.When determining a team member's base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).

     

    The salary range for this position is $121,200-$212,100/year
