Aston Carter is partnering with a client in Overland Park seeking an Accountant to join their team. This is a 3‑month contract‑to‑hire role with excellent growth potential.

Job Description
The Accountant will be responsible for complex accounting tasks, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, maintaining balance sheet schedules, and monitoring banking activities. This position will play a crucial role in the month-end close, account analysis, and supporting the Finance department in fulfilling its responsibilities.
Responsibilities
+ Manage general accounting functions and related activities.
+ Oversee bank accounts and activities, assisting Accountants with transaction coding.
+ Process EFT payments for carrier payments and distribution to risk bearers.
+ Reconcile monthly premiums and claims activity, assisting with reporting to insurance carriers.
+ Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and review bank statement reconciliations.
+ Implement accounting procedures by analyzing and recommending changes to current procedures.
+ Coordinate complex accounting projects and initiatives with the accounting and finance team.
+ Support team members with accounts payables and deposits as needed.
+ Assist with MGU Activities, including analysis, tracking applications, accounting data, premium payments, and carrier reporting.
+ Provide assistance for outside auditors by gathering necessary account information and documents.
+ Perform other related duties or ad-hoc special projects as assigned.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in reconciliation, month-end close, journal entry, and general ledger.
+ Advanced skills in Excel.
+ 3+ years of full-cycle accounting experience.
+ Degree in Accounting or Finance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with Workday is preferred but not required.
+ Experience in premiums or the insurance industry is a plus.
Work Environment
The role is part of a close-knit accounting team of five, including a Senior Accountant, Staff Accountant, and Accounting Clerk. The work environment is laid-back and fosters a big-company culture, where employees are well taken care of. Initially, the role requires full-time office presence during the contract duration, transitioning to a hybrid schedule with three days in the office and two days working from home, with the option to choose your WFH days.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.86 - $40.86/hr.
