The Principal Research and Development Engineer/Scientist will be responsible for leveraging technical expertise to provide solutions for complex global challenges. You will lead the ideation and implementation of cutting-edge technologies, ensuring alignment with Solstice’s strategic objectives. You will be responsible for providing mentorship and guidance to ensure successful and efficient project delivery.
You will report directly to our R&D Manager, and you’ll work out of our Buffalo, NY location on a Hybrid work schedule.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES
+ Provide formulating expertise and operating knowledge to solve global customer problems and support sales in insulation foam applications
+ Plan and conduct voice-of-customer interviews, define value proposition of Solstice products in foam and insulation applications
+ Identify technology opportunities in different foam applications and initiate projects for business growth by working closely with the commercial team
+ Lead, plan, and execute foam insulation technical service and growth projects, with significant knowledge about polyurethane, polyisocyanurate and thermoplastic foams
+ Lead development of foam innovative and breakthrough technical program
+ Actively providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior scientist/engineer in the global team
+ Represent Solstice in trade associations, government bodies, and material standard organizations
+ Act as key liaison and “point person” for research and development programs among global team
+ Generate new technology and ideas leading to intellectual property including patents

Key Responsibilities
+ Provide technical expertise in the design, development, and testing of innovative solutions
+ Mentor and guide a team of R&D engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence
+ Drive innovation by identifying new technologies and methodologies
+ Conduct research to generate intellectual property (IP) and contribute to patent applications
+ Evaluate emerging technologies for their applicability to current and future projects
+ Conduct technology assessments to inform strategic decisionmaking
+ Support the transfer of technology from R&D to manufacturing or production teams
+ Identify and assess technical and projectrelated risks
+ Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies
Qualifications
YOU MUST HAVE
+ Minimal bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, or related field
+ Minimum 15 years of experience of formulating or technical experience in polyurethane foam industry
+ Experience in technical publication and presentation
+ Experience leading and working in a diverse and global cross-functional team setting
+ Strong and thorough understanding of business acumen
WE VALUE
+ Master’s degree in relevant field. MBA is a plus
+ Board knowledge of engineering principles with different insulation production setup
+ Thorough experience and knowledge of foam insulation equipment
+ Established network in polyurethane and foam industries
+ Experience of handling and usage of raw materials and products for insulation foams
+ Strong leadership and project management skills
+ Proficient in SFDC and project management skills
+ Effective customer-facing and communication skills
+ Strong understanding of foam industry regulations
+ Experience in IP evaluation and filing process
+ Experience in statistical experience design
+ Understanding of ISO quality assurance and quality control
+ Experience in HS&E aspect of laboratory and production setting
+ Understand of sustainability impact and measurement method, such as LCA, of insulation foam
+ Willingness to travel
COMPENSATION
The annual base range for this position is $190,000-$235,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Solstice considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.
This position is incentive eligible.
