    About the role

     

    DowIndustrial Solutions(DIS) has an exciting opportunity for aSenior R&D/TS&D Techniciansupporting Products and Application developments inLake Jackson, Texas.

     

    DIS is a diverse business that serves 17 market segments with 20 technology platforms. Technology platforms consist of surfactants, amines, polyglycols, solvents, fluids, chelants, and more. These technology platforms serve our customers with sustainable solutions in market segments including cleaning, crop solutions, life sciences, lubricants, textiles, fuel additives, pharma, and many others. Our products are enabling the initiatives of safer materials, resource efficiency, carbon reduction and circular economy.

     

    The successful candidate will collaborate primarily in the Surfactants segment with an enthusiastic group of R&D and TS&D scientists, technicians, and technologists to evaluate, develop, scale up and commercialize new products across our technology platforms. The role will focus primarily on property, application, and analytical testing.

     

    Additionally, you have a strong technical focus, analytical acumen, and safety mindset. You possess the capability to balance workload across different technologies and effectively communicate to key stakeholders. You demonstrate broadened technical skills in formulations and analytical/scientific methods to perform a defined array of activities. You will collaborate with technical experts and teammates to deliver high-quality data, support customer needs, and continuously improve the operational efficiency of the laboratory.

    Responsibilities

    + Works in a safe manner in accordance with facility and site Environmental Health & Safety policies.

    + Performs analytical and product characterization testing for one or more projects as directed by project leads. Sets up and runs simple reactions, prepares formulations, and characterizes material (e.g., surfactant properties). Conducts analytical analysis, with GC, GC-MS, and LC, as necessary. Tests materials in market applications.

    + Prepares for, manages, and independently executes procedures and laboratory work requests, for which activities may include sample or materials preparations, equipment setup/configuration and operation, and proper handling and disposal of waste materials.

    + Develops experimental plans for review/approval by Lead Scientist, and executes approved plans by performing routine and non-standard tasks or procedures of higher complexity

    + Acts responsible for calibration, safe operation, and routine maintenance of simple and moderately complex instruments and testing equipment, and troubleshoots and repairs faulty equipment, or initiates repair processes as appropriate.

    + Accurately and reliably documents data and observations, communicates results clearly to stakeholders, and provides recommendations on next steps.

    + Participates in technical training to attain on-the-job proficiency

    + Participates in good housekeeping practices

    + Maintains inventories of consumable materials, chemicals, and supplies related to activities by anticipating usage rates, order lead times, and ordering/purchasing procedures.

    + Promptly and effectively communicates issues to lead scientists to enable or accelerate problem resolution.

    + Actively participates in work group team meetings to address safety, process improvement, problem solving, and other work group, department, and functional topics.

    + Develops a specific expertise within the department and laboratory work group in specific procedures, equipment, or instruments.

    Required qualifications:

    + Must meet one of the following:

    + A High school Diploma/GED equivalent AND 5 years of relevant work experience OR

    + An Associate’s Degree or higher (or higher) (Applied Science in a relevant field i.e., Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology preferred) OR 3 years relevant military training experience

    + A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process

    Your preferred qualifications include:

    + Experience in a research wet chemistry and analytical laboratory or pilot plant

    + Experience with analytical equipment, methodologies, and capabilities

    + Experience with surfactants, solvents, formulations, and synthesis

    + Experience using computer software to plan, analyze, evaluate, and document lab experiments and data utilizing Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams, and available research software

    Willing and able to meet physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

    + Wear personal protective equipment, including and not limited to lab coat, goggles, and gloves

    + Able to work for extended periods of time in a laboratory including standing, bending, reaching, and lifting activities

    + Able to confidently and safely move about 50 pounds. Examples include positioning and configuring laboratory equipment, such as pumps, vessels, and instruments.

    Your skills

    + Laboratory Instrumentation: Ability to operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, ensuring accurate measurements and reliable performance.

    + Laboratory Safety: Knowledge and application of safety protocols, hazard identification, and compliance with regulatory standards to maintain a safe working environment.

    + Analytical Thinking: Capacity to evaluate complex problems, interpret data, and select solutions based on established procedures and scientific reasoning.

    + Technical Communication: Ability to clearly convey technical information, observations, and data through reports, charts, and verbal updates to scientists and team members.

    + Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work: Skill in structuring tasks, managing time, and prioritizing activities to meet project goals efficiently.

    Additional Notes:

    + This is a laboratory job at Dow’s Texas Innovation Center, located in Lake Jackson, TX. Applicants must be able to work on site, during daytime, weekday business hours as a regular schedule. The role does support 9-Day Biweekly (Alternating Friday off) flexible work arrangement.

    + This position does not offer relocation assistance for this position.
