    Position Description

    TheDepartment of Chemistry and Biochemistry (https://www.txst.edu/chemistry.html) at Texas State University invites applications for an Associate Professor of Practice position for Spring 2026 academic year. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering, relevant postdoctoral research experience, significant industry experience, a strong publication record, and the ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in chemistry and/or materials science and engineering. The candidate should have a demonstrated record of external funding and is expected to establish collaborative research that aligns with the university’s Materials Science, Engineering and Commercialization PhD program. The candidate is expected to generate peer-reviewed publications and external funding. Using their industrial experience, the candidate is expected to contribute to the development and implementation of an industrial internship program, develop and maintain relationships with companies, and effectively mentor undergraduate and graduate students. The candidate is expected to participate in service activities in support of the university, the department, and the profession.

    Required Qualifications

    + An earned doctorate in materials science and engineering.

    + Postdoctoral research experience.

    + A strong publication record.

    + Evidence of ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in chemistry and/or materials science and engineering.

    + Ten (10) years or more of experience in student mentoring.

    + Six (6) years or more of industry and related experience that includes leadership and management.

    + Substantial industrial experience in electrochemical energy storage and conversion technologies that includes cell design, scale-up, and manufacturing.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Demonstrated record of external funding.

    + Evidence of ability to establish collaborative research that aligns with the university’s Materials Science, Engineering and Commercialization PhD program.
