We are seeking a **_Facilities Dockmaster_** who will be responsible for the safe and efficient operations of the main Johns Hopkins University Research Animal Resources (RAR) loading dock used for both animal and commercial deliveries. This position will routinely interact with vendors and non-JHU affiliates.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
+ Triages all incoming and outgoing deliveries.
+ Coordinates the receipt of incoming animals and facilitates delivery of animals to the correct JHU facility, or other destination, including processing and providing all necessary paperwork as well as inputting all new animals into eSirius or LabKey.
+ Ensures proper and adequate care of animals in receiving and shipping status including monitoring health status and arranging for veterinary care, if needed.
+ Maintains a clean, safe, orderly work environment.
+ Processes all loading dock requests.
+ Confirms that all vendor documentation including a certificate of insurance is submitted and approved prior to vendor arrival.
+ Coordinates any loading dock use outside of normal business hours with Security.
+ Keeps an accurate record of loading dock activities.
+ Verifies ID for all deliveries/contractors entering the loading dock.
+ Notifies point of contact upon the arrival of delivery/vendor.
+ Verifies accuracy of delivery and signs for receipt of delivery.
+ Works with Inventory and Distribution Coordinator to schedule delivery of supplies/equipment to other RAR facilities.
+ Works with supervisor to update loading dock SOPs when necessary.
+ Provides the daily delivery schedule for the RAR driver and provides driving back up as needed.
+ Develops and implements schedules for RAR vehicle maintenance and processes invoices for payment.
+ Helps facilitate dock maintenance, renovations, and planning and suggests changes to improve the efficiency and quality of the loading dock.
+ Ensures all appropriate loading dock safety protocols are followed.
+ Prepares the dock for USDA, IACUC inspections, and AAALAC site visits.
+ Escalates concerns and issues to supervisor and/or security office when appropriate.
+ Reports safety violations and accidents in a timely manner following all processes and procedures.
+ Must be able to work a flexible schedule that could include some holidays.
+ MVA clearance required.
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications
+ Certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) preferred
Any specific physical requirements for the job
+ Ability to work under environmental conditions that could require the use of safety equipment.
+ Ability to regularly lift, move, carry and position objects and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
+ Specialty Occupational Health requirements up to date and complete.
Minimum Qualifications
+ High School Diploma or graduation equivalent (animal experience preferred).
+ One year of related experience required.
+ Technical School training may be considered in lieu of some experience.
+ Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Three years of related experience.
+ Some knowledge of animal facility operations.
+ Prior loading dock experience preferred.
+ Good understanding of safety standards.
+ Customer service oriented.
+ Ability to work constructively and cooperatively as part of a team and react at the last minute.
+ Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job.
+ Good verbal and written communications skills.
+ Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).

Starting Salary Range: $18.20 - $33.90 HRLY (Commensurate w/exp.)
Employee group: Full Time
Schedule: Monday - Friday / 7:00am-3:30pm or 7:30am - 4:00pm / Could require some holidays
