    Job Description

    One of Insight Global’s major clients are seeking a Fiber Designer to join the Operational Communications division within a local utility. General responsibilities include:

     

    • Perform fiber design functions requiring competencies in project planning, building, and maintaining the fiber optic infrastructure.

    • Independently develops, designs, evaluates, selects, and/or applies guidelines, procedures, and fiber design techniques and standards in an economically efficient and sound fiber designing manner.

    • Maintains and updates documentation for fiber optic networks, including inside and outside plants.

    • This position requires a strong understanding of fiber optic infrastructure construction, maintenance, and spatial planning.

    • Skilled at creating and documenting splice plans for construction projects and updating Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

    • Collaborates with cross-functional teams including Network Engineering to create detailed designs, ensure optimal network performance, and contribute to the successful implementation of fiber optic projects.

    Skills and Requirements

    • 5+ years of experience utilizing fiber design software (ex: ArcGIS, 3GIS, OSPInsight, CrescentLink) specifically for fiber network design

    • Familiarity with OSP fiber – either from a design or construction standpoint • Prior experience supporting an electric utility/energy provider

    • Bachelor’s or Associates degree

    • UTC Level 1 & 2- Fiber Optic Designer Certification

    • Knowledge of applicable network protocols including TCI/IP, DNP3, Modbus, IEC 60870, etc.
