Responsibilities Serve as a Brigade Safety and Occupational Health Specialist responsible for management of ground and tactical safety programs. Direct and advises mishap investigation boards, convened to determine causal factors that result in fatalities, serious injuries, or substantial property damage. Interpret policy instructions on safety requirements formulated by other Federal Government agencies, assuring their proper application to division safety and health programs. Research new factors bearing on accident rates and/or conditions, reviews new technology in the safety and health area transmitting useful information to using Army organizations Participate directly with the preventive medicine staff in assessing work conditions affecting the health of people relative to hazardous elements. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing Safety and Occupational Health programs for ground and tactical safety; performing risk analysis of tactical exercises to evaluate technology, the environment health, and safety; reporting all matters relating to compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA); providing guidance for regulations/standards to staff, tenants or safety officers to achieve sound program objectives. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
