    Hours: 45 hours/week, Mon.-Fri. 9 hours/day, 7:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.

     

    Employer may request, but not require that workers work more than the stated daily hours, on the worker’s Sabbath, or on federal holidays.

    Crops/Commodities: vegetables, perennials, bedding plants, hanging baskets.

     

    Workers will plant, cultivate and maintain in condition for shipping and sale to customers nursery plants, including perennials, bedding plants, vegetable plants and hanging baskets; pot seedlings, prune, transplant, space, performs hand watering and drip-irrigation to ensure availability of marketable products; prune, pinch, and remove dead flowers and leaves; pack, label, pull and store plants according to variety. Workers will attach hangers to hanging baskets and hang throughout seasonal holding houses. Workers will move containerized plants using rolling carts. Workers may uncover and/or recover winter storage houses; weed, mow, load/unload truck and wagons; perform any other duties involved in the maintenance of plant materials and nursery stock and maintenance of holding yards and shipping areas. Workers will plant, cultivate, transplant, and harvest vegetables. Workers will be expected to lay black plastic, punch and prepare the plastic for planting seeds and remove plastic at end of season. Workers will perform field maintenance activities including pulling weeds, thinning crops and spraying plants with herbicides, pesticides and fungicides. Workers will perform irrigation activities, including setting up and moving irrigation pipes and equipment. Workers will also be required to remove trash, rocks and debris from the planting/harvest area. At harvest, workers will be instructed to select vegetables based on specifications set by the supervisor. Workers will be required to bend and stoop to pick the vegetables, cut the vines using a knife and carry the vegetables to bins and trucks. Workers will unload full bins/trucks at designated market locations and sort produce for quality issues. Work will include mechanized field work using power equipment. Workers will operate tractors, sprayers, cultivators, planters, mowers, plows, disks, fumigators and other farm equipment. Workers will be expected to be able to operate equipment, with or without direction, in a manner that protects the operator, visitors, other employees, crops, trees, facilities and equipment. Failure to comply with operating and safety standards may result in termination. Workers will assist with the maintenance and repair of tractors and equipment.

     

    Work is to be done for long periods of time in the field, when plants may be wet with dew and rain, and may be required during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temperatures.

     

    Workers who possess a valid driver's license and meet all applicable legal requirements, including holding a doctor's certificate as required by 29 CFR § 500.105, may be asked to drive vehicles for transporting workers, goods, or commodities on company business. This task is voluntary, compensable, and not a mandatory job duty. Workers without a valid driver's license or doctor's certificate will still be fully eligible for employment and are not disqualified from any other job responsibilities outlined in this application.

    No High School Diploma or GED required.

    ### Minimum Experience Required

    This job requires a minimum of two months of prior experience working on a nursery handling both manual and machine tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities. Applicants must furnish verifiable job references or comparable third-party documentation from recent employers to establish acceptable prior experience. This requirement will be applied equally to all new foreign and domestic candidates. Workers must be able to lift up to 50 pounds to a height of 5 feet. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Workers should be able to work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time.

     

    Able to perform work that requires exposure to extreme temperatures, extensive pushing or pulling, sitting or walking, frequent stooping or bending over, and repetitive movements.

    Raises and/or bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker employed under this job order, at the company's sole discretion, based on individual factors including but not limited to work performance, skill, and tenure.

     

    As required for all workers in Minnesota, hours worked in excess of 48 hours in a work week will be paid at the rate of 1.5 times the regular rate of pay.

    EMPLOYER ASSURANCES: Work guaranteed for 3/4 of contract period, starting with date of arrival at work site. Employer provides free housing for workers whose residence is beyond normal commuting distance. Employer pays inbound transportation and subsistence to work site upon 50% completion of work contract for workers whose residence is beyond normal commuting distance. Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of at least $16.28 per day during travel to a maximum of $68.00 per day with receipts. Required work-related tools and supplies provided free of charge by employer.

     

    Effective Jan 1, 2024, per MN State Statute, an employee will earn one hour of paid sick and safe time for every 30 hours worked, up to at least 48 hours of accrued Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) per year, provided the employee works a minimum of 80 hours in a calendar year.
