    Job Summary

    Basic Function and Responsibilities

     

    The Chief Supply Chain Officer (CSCO) is an executive-level position at the University of Michigan Health, responsible for the 'end-to-end' supply chain management for UM Health, including the University of Michigan Health Academic Medical Center (AMC) and Regional Health System's clinical and business areas. The Chief Supply Chain Officer is responsible for providing leadership oversight for several enterprise-wide supply chain functions and departments, including sourcing, operations, and technology and performance. Leads teams to ensure timely and effective performance of department goals and effective staff performance of 460 FTE.

    Organizational Relationships

    + Reports to the Chief Integration and Support Services Officer for Michigan Medicine.

    + Direct supervision of the following positions. All titles subject to change:

    + Executive Assistant

    + Senior Director, Sourcing

    + Senior Director, Technology and Performance

    + Senior Director, Supply Chain Operations

    + Medical Director Supply Chain

    Responsibilities*

    + Facilitate and drive strategic direction for UM Health's end-to-end supply chain vision, goals, and objectives across owned and affiliated clinical sites.

    + Responsible for the analysis, assessment, and approval of human resources, capital planning and acquisition, space, technology, and other resources to maintain operations in a manner that creates a safe environment and creates the ideal experience for patients, families, and other customers.

    + Responsible for ensuring the development of financial plans of departments according to institutional directives, tracking results, reviewing monthly results, and partnering to develop and implement any required actions. Monitor monthly metrics via dashboards and work with direct reports on any necessary actions.

    + Provide oversight, management, and guidance in support of the entire supply chain services department, which coordinates annual supply spend for UM Health at approximately $1.8 billion.

    + Serve to maintain a cost-effective staffing structure that focuses on lean operations and organizational integration that results in expense reduction over time.

    + Collaborate with the University of Michigan campus procurement on integrated initiatives.

    + Partner with sustainability, facilities, department leaders, and UM Campus colleagues to implement environmental sustainability projects.

    + Demonstrate commitment to coach and mentor direct reports and other emerging leaders for succession in the organization and personal career development.

    + Collaborate with reporting leaders in creating an ideal staff experience and a positive organizational culture through employee engagement and action plans.

    + Ensure that respective departments follow regulatory and legal requirements, including continual readiness for the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies. Ensure follow-up action plans are in place, if necessary. Ensure that departments are compliant with required learning modules.

    + Serves as executive point of contact for strategic vendors and industry contacts to include group purchasing organizations, distributors, and manufacturers.

    + Participate in institutional capital, operations, and programmatic committees to support UM Health's goals and initiatives.

    Required Qualifications*

    **Education** :

    + Master's degree in Business Administration, Health Services Administration, Public Health, or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    **Experience** :

    + Progressively responsible business and administrative experience in healthcare administration, including healthcare operations in a large academic medical center setting of 10 years or greater.

    + Experience and knowledge of financial management principles in the preparation of budgets (capital and operating), ongoing management of expenses and revenues and capital project management.

    + Progressively responsible experience in supply chain strategy, purchasing, and materials management in an academic medical center.

    + Proven track record of improvement and execution of institutional goals with demonstrated knowledge of operations management principles, practices, and methods.

    + Demonstrated experience in planning, coordinating, and executing operational work plans, process improvement, and new program development.

    + Demonstrated knowledge and use of process improvement and change management, and leadership techniques.

    + Demonstrated commitment to enhancing workplace culture and a commitment to creating the ideal work environment for staff.

     

    Modes of Work

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
