    SCHOOL/UNIT DESCRIPTION** **:

    We are hiring one 80% FTE, benefits-eligible, fixed term Financial Analyst and Research Administrator for one (1) year. Although not guaranteed, there will be potential for an extension/renewal following the initial 1-year contingent upon programmatic needs.

    POSITION SUMMARY** **:

    The Center seeks an experienced candidate for the position of Financial Analyst and Research Administrator. The position reports to the deputy director and works closely with the director, playing a key role overseeing the Center’s financial day-to-day operations, planning, and forecasting. This position requires the incumbent to demonstrate knowledge about fund accounting and research administration and to personally manage and oversee all financial and research administration activities, complying with Stanford University policies. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: expenditure reconciliations and reviews, revenue reporting/accounting of endowments and gifts, purchases and reimbursements, general ledger transactions, journal entries, and pre- and post-award sponsored project administration. In addition, the incumbent will work closely with faculty and staff to provide timely management reports, present to the CASBS Board of Directors when necessary, and communicate clearly about compliance and policy requirements to all members of the CASBS community.

     

    Working under minimal supervision, the ideal candidate is a friendly, proactive, and dependable self-starter with strong attention to detail, sound judgment and decision making, excellent client service, and strong interpersonal and communication skills. The role requires an individual with a high level of professionalism, productivity, and organization. The candidate should be able to work independently and in a team setting, and must be customer oriented.

     

    This is a fixed-term (January 2026 - December 2026), 80% FTE, benefits-eligible position. The standard schedule for this position is a four-day work week, from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. There may be occasional extended hours for event support. This position will be based at CASBS on the Stanford campus, and after a trial period will be considered for an option of a hybrid schedule (one day offsite), subject to operational need.     CORE DUTIES** **:

    + Perform and design adhoc analyses of large complex data sets: reconcile complex accounts. Identify and resolve complex issues which may span multiple areas.

    + Construct and assemble data for budgeting and decision making; develop conclusions, and present high level summary of recommendations. May develop annual budget for individual department/unit.

    + Conduct analysis and resolution, and recognize exceptions. Participate in developing solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes; maintain broader organizational perspective in decision making.

    + Execute internal control programs established by management, research new regulations, and recommend and implement approved changes. May manage compliance program for area of responsibility, and create complex compliance reports.

    + Develop reports and presentations of complex financial data and metrics for management and third parties.

    + Participate as a member of a project team; support new initiatives. Make decisions determining approach to managing and completing processes.

    + Contribute to unit and organization strategy; assist in the development of change management plans and materials as needed.

    + Develop and maintain desktop procedures and process documentation for area of responsibility.

    + Define requirements, develop and implement complex test cases, perform system testing and analyze results.

    + Participate in critical analysis of existing systems and processes, and identify opportunities for process improvement.

    + Provide consulting advice to client group(s); serve as a resource on matters that require specific technical, financial, or subject matter expertise; support negotiations with external partners.

    + Serve as liaison and active partner between principal investigators, Office of Sponsored Research, research groups, and other departments; respond to sponsor inquiries.

    + Collaborate with Office of Sponsored Research to ensure awards are set up properly, allowable expenses are properly allocated and cost-sharing requirements are fulfilled; initiate cost transfers in a timely manner with adequate justifications.

    + May supervise, train, coach, and review the work of other staff, as needed. Contribute primarily through applying individual expertise.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS** **:

    **Education & Experience** :

     

    Bachelor’s degree and four years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

     

    **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** :

    + Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.

    + Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems; internet and computer literacy.

    + Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

    + Strong communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences and client groups.

    + Demonstrated project management skills and ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi-functional team.

    + Previous Stanford University experience preferred.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS** ***:

    + Constantly sitting.

    + Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork.

    + Occasionally stand/walk, lift/carry objects weighing 11-20 pounds.

    + Rarely reach/work above shoulder.

    Onsite/Hybrid** **:

    The expected pay range for this position is $93,596 to $100,000 per annum.
