Position Overview

The **Forklift Operator** supports efficient, on-site logistics operations with a **strong emphasis on cross-docking—moving materials rapidly between inbound and outbound docks to minimize storage time and improve delivery speed. This hands-on role is responsible for safe equipment movemen** t, accurate staging, and adherence to all facility and regulatory safety standards. The position plays a critical part in maintaining smooth, timely, and cost-effective yard operations.

Key Responsibilities

Pay: $18.00 to $20.00 an hour - Overtime as needed according to the business

Hours: 6:00 - 3:30 PM

+ Safely operate yard vehicles to transfer bins, vans, trailers, and tanker trucks throughout the facility.

+ Support cross-docking by quickly positioning inbound and outbound equipment at designated docks to minimize storage time and accelerate turnaround.

+ Ensure wheel chocks and jack stands are properly placed and operational prior to any movement.

+ Review MSDS and manifests when handling new or unfamiliar hazardous materials.

+ Respond to and clean up spills following established safety procedures.

+ Perform routine vehicle inspections—including brakes, fuel, fluids, lights, and tire pressure—to ensure safe and reliable operation.

+ Accurately placard and stage equipment in accordance with permitted storage and compliance requirements.

+ Maneuver vehicles safely in tight, high-traffic yard areas while adhering to speed limits and site driving rules.

Qualifications** **Education

+ High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

+ 0–3 years of experience in a driving, yard, or logistics support role.

Certifications

+ Valid driver’s license required.

+ Forklift certification preferred.

Skills

+ Strong spatial awareness and sound decision-making with minimal supervision.

+ Mechanically inclined with a strong safety mindset.

+ Ability to plan and execute tasks efficiently in time-sensitive environments.

Physical Requirements

+ Medium work: frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs.; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.

+ Frequent sitting, walking, bending, climbing, and use of hands/feet for vehicle operation.

+ Must pass a respirator fit test and work safely in outdoor conditions.

Driving Requirements

+ Operate cars, small and large trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions within the yard.

+ Support vehicle movement required for real-time dock scheduling.

Work Environment

+ Less than 10% travel required.

+ No supervisory responsibilities.

+ Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
