    Amazon operates a world-class network of delivery stations across the globe. The Amazon Logistics (AMZL) Team is responsible for the acquisition, design, construction, and management of all facilities in the Amazon Delivery Station Network. We are looking for a talented professional to join our North America AMZL Design Engineering Team who will support the expansion of AMZL’s Delivery Station Network in the U.S. This leader is customer focused, talented, and technically skilled with a strong record of delivery results, ownership, and having the maturity to lead and influence teams.

     

    The Senior Manager will have a talent and passion for building and managing the delivery station designs for various portfolios within the North America region. Focus on mentoring and developing Design Engineers and CAD drafters towards efficient cost, efficiency, and design decisions. Establish long term sustainable design processes incorporating requirements, standards, review cycles, to meet business and customer demands ensuring the highest quality service to our operators. Internal customers and stakeholders include Safety, Topology, Capacity, Real Estate, Process Engineering, Pre-Construction and its Architects, and Launch Planning and Execution teams. A strong bias for action, strategic planning skills, quantitative analysis, and the ability to organize and deliver new initiatives involving leadership across cross-functional operations, technical, business, and external contracting teams is essential. This position will include regular direct communications with senior leaders in the company.

     

    Key job responsibilities

     

    - Responsible for the Delivery Station project designs from the time projects are selected to the successful launch for the Operations team to start delivering customer packages

     

    - Responsible for managing a team of Design Engineers and CAD drafters to deliver timely and cost-effective designs for both interior and exterior flow of the Delivery Stations

     

    - Responsible for determining needs for Design resources, hiring, developing, coaching, and mentoring of those resources to improve learning curves and contribution towards teams’ success

     

    - Responsible for daily, weekly, quarterly plan of how Design resources are being utilized to meet and exceed the business needs within a region

     

    - Responsible for the quality and the performance of the team meeting and exceeding design deliverables against daily, weekly, quarterly plans for the region

     

    - Responsible for developing and enforcing company wide Delivery Station Design standards in collaboration with global design teams, Safety, Process Engineering, Material Handling Equipment, and Launch

     

    - Reviews and intakes new expansion, retrofit, process improvement initiatives and opportunities to support associate and driver safety, quality, and productivity, and capacity increase for the delivery stations

     

    - Leads solutions for recurring process issues and improvement projects within Design Engineering processes and facilitates new solution implementation and adoption across the Design teams

     

    - Collaborates with partner and downstream customer teams on their feedback, challenges, lessons learned, best practices, including revisiting current standards, processes, and deliverables

     

    - Collaborates with the technology and material handling teams to incorporate new technologies including equipment, robotics, conveyor systems, safety devices, etc.

     

    - Identify and implement mechanisms across the larger team to increase scale, speed, and quality of designs

     

    - Drive long term processes to enable critical milestone completions, mitigation steps to bring programs back on schedule, and escalating risks to leadership for direction and support

     

    - Facilitate cross-functional reviews to collaborate on solutions for recurring and critical program defects

    Ability to travel up to 50% of time throughout North America

    The Sr. Manager prioritizes multiple strategic initiatives while reviewing key performance metrics across your programs. They lead a team, providing thoughtful guidance on technical standards and design implementations. The Sr. Manager dives deep into data analysis, translating complex insights into clear recommendations for cross-functional partners. They support continuous improvement through workshops to build consensus between engineering and business teams on new innovation initiatives, while bringing in emerging industry best practices. The Sr. Manager navigates ambiguous challenges that require both strategic thinking and hands-on problem-solving. Entrepreneurial drive is essential, identifying opportunities for improvement, developing independent solutions, and rallying resources to execute them. The Sr. Manager maintains initiative alignment with business objectives with agility, providing clear and objective results and recommendations.

    Basic Qualifications

    - Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a foreign equivalent

     

    - 5+ years of engineering team management experience

     

    - Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems and high-speed manufacturing

     

    - 10+ years experience in the job offered or related occupation of Industrial Engineer, Process Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or related role

     

    - Experience must involve technical leadership for large-scale engineering projects

    Preferred Qualifications

    - Master's degree or above in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics or equivalent, or a Master's degree and experience implementing pragmatic operations solutions to solve problems such as the scheduling, routing, assignment, facility location, or lot-sizing problem

     

    - Experience with process design based on Lean Principles

     

    - Experience in project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management

     

    - Experience with design-in-safety

     

    - Knowledge of concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making

    Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $155,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $269,100/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
