What are we looking for :
Seeking a proactive Technical Manager to lead technical personnel by providing technical guidance and support with ASTM/Industry activity and report validation. Oversee and support the ISO 17025 Quality Management System (QMS) and database systems (LIMS) in the laboratory. Develop plans for manpower, productivity, equipment additions, equipment replacements, and customer service. Interact with customers to answer questions and resolve issues. Drive continuous improvement initiatives through proficient use of statistical process control (SPC), data analysis, root cause analysis, and action plan implementation. Ensure compliance with company safety policy and procedures.

What you’ll do:
+ Manages staff of chemists/supervisor:
+ Gives priority direction to direct reports.
+ Provides feedback on job performance to direct reports.
+ Coordinates mixed responsibilities between direct reports.
+ Provides technical guidance and support to the laboratory:
+ Ensures that all testing is compliant with applicable industry standards.
+ Reviews internal documents for test procedures and updates as necessary.
+ Performs analysis of Process Flow in test areas to continuously improve test efficiency.
+ Provides feedback to the technician supervisor relative to best practices of process flow and the relative needs for personnel based on those best practices.
+ Ultimately responsible for test quality for testing as listed on the Technical Leadership Grid.
+ Quality System/Database (LIMS):
+ Ensures that quality system policies and procedures are correct and followed
+ Ensures that data and data structure in LIMS are correct and compliant with customer needs, industry standards and lab productivity
+ Planning:
+ Responsible for maintaining appropriate staff levels to maintain profitability and provide test coverage
+ Completes and submits financial justifications for new and replacement equipment
+ Generates, develops, and communicates Metric data regarding customer service and lab performance
+ Responsible for financial performance of the laboratory on current testing activity and provides support for new test development
+ ASTM/Industry Activity:
+ Attends/Leads industry meetings relative to any testing performed in the lab as required.
+ Reviews industry data from Crosschecks, round robins, target matrices, TMC calibration for information about relative severity of our testing.
+ Data Review/Customer Service:
+ Validates interim and final data reports for all external customers as necessary.
+ Ensures that an effective Statistical Process Control system is in place for standardized test methods.
+ Evaluates test performance against industry precision, standards, and identifies discrepancies between lab performance and expected precision.
+ Leads root cause analysis for precision and bias issues and provides input to the leadership team regarding the appropriate corrective action.
+ Evaluates data from industry crosscheck programs, ASTM TMC, and other industry data sources to identify improvement opportunities.
+ Provides routine quality reports for internal and external customer review.
+ Follows up on customer questions relative to data quality on relevant test methods and feeds information back to the appropriate contact.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
+ BS in Chemistry or Engineering
+ 5+ years’ experience working in an analytical petroleum laboratory is desired. Experience in non-petroleum analytical laboratory will be considered.
+ 1+ Year Laboratory Management experience.
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with shifting priorities and demanding deadlines
+ Must be detail-oriented and able to prioritize and organize workload, with efficient time management.
+ Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal, written, and presentation formats
+ Must possess the fundamental technical and administrative skills required to perform the job duties
+ Must be customer-focused and quality-driven
+ Ability to travel as business needs dictate (5-10%)
Preferred requirements and qualifications
+ Experience with quality management systems (ISO 17025 or ISO 9001) and SQC utilization per ASTM D6792 and D6299 desired.
+ ASQ Quality certification and Six Sigma training desired.
