    THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is actively looking for a qualified individual to fill the role of Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor. In this position, you will oversee a dedicated bridge inspection team within the designated Engineering District, ensuring that all existing bridge structures undergo thorough safety inspections in compliance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards as well as departmental guidelines. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity and safety of our transportation infrastructure. If you are passionate about contributing to the safety and efficiency of our roadways, we encourage you to apply today and join the dynamic District 9-0 team!

    DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will oversee and conduct safety inspections of existing bridges, evaluating all structural elements including concrete footings, abutments, wing walls, bearings, back walls, steel beams, girders, truss members, pre-stressed concrete beams, timber structures, bridge decks, wearing surfaces, expansion devices, approach slabs, relief joints, piers, bents, rivets, bolts, welds, and various safety features such as safety parapets, guide rails, approach roadway alignment, deck geometry, vertical clearances, and bridge signage. Your inspections will focus on identifying conditions such as damage from accidents, water erosion of footings, and deterioration or corrosion of pins, eyebars, and other steel components, as well as assessing the condition of bearings.

You will be responsible for maintaining comprehensive bridge inspection records, which include data from the Bridge Management System (BMS3), D-491 forms, photographs, field sketches, drawings, and other bridge-specific documentation. Occasionally, you may be assigned special tasks that involve inspecting bridges under eight feet, photographing unique bridge conditions, conducting damage assessments, performing scour monitoring inspections, or measuring the thickness of wearing surfaces and section loss. It is essential to stay updated on BMS3 for inquiries and to ensure accurate data entry into the computer system.

Collaboration with County Maintenance Units and railroads will be necessary, both in verbal and written communication, to provide the required equipment, permits, and support staff for safe access to structures. You will supervise the collection of field data, including photographs, sketches, narrative descriptions, inspection forms, and detailed reports. Additionally, you will prepare organized and well-documented bridge inspection reports that address critical findings related to current conditions and deficiencies, in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) as outlined in Pub. 238.

Your role will encompass a full range of supervisory responsibilities, including planning, organizing, and assigning work, determining workflow, prioritizing tasks, and reviewing the performance of subordinates to ensure high standards are met.
