    The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

     

    We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Mechanical Technician to support operations and maintenance activities across a wide range of mechanical systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with mechanical, electromechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, HVAC, water, and lubrication systems. This role requires working in challenging environments, including heights and confined spaces, while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

    THIS IS A COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT REPRESENTED POSITION

    Responsibilities

    Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of:

    -Mechanical and electromechanical systems

     

    -Hydraulic and pneumatic systems

     

    -HVAC and water systems

     

    -Lubrication and fluid distribution systems

     

    -Preventive maintenance to ensure system reliability and compliance with safety standards

     

    -Operate and maintain tools, diagnostic equipment, and machinery relevant to assigned systems.

     

    -Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.

     

    -Accurately document maintenance activities, findings, and repairs using written reports and digital systems.

     

    -Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, leads, and other departments to coordinate work and resolve issues.

     

    -Adhere to all safety protocols, including working at heights and in confined spaces with PPE.

     

    -Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

     

    -Strong verbal and written communication skills.

     

    -Experience working in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) is a plus.

     

    -Ability to climb stairs/ladders to access work stations.

     

    High School Diploma or equivalent and technical training in the applicable area and three years related experience.

    + Must have proven troubleshooting ability, using a systematic approach in the repair of mechanical, electromechanical, hydraulic, water, HVAC, pneumatic, or lubrication systems.

    + Experience with pneumatics, compressed gases, and pressure vessel systems is highly desired.

    + Must possess or can obtain a Class D motor vehicle license.

    + Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication.

    + Must be able to climb ladders, towers, and stairs to work at heights (>300 feet) using protective equipment.

    + May require physical exertion in climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, carrying, or work in cramped quarters.

    + Must work well in a team environment and interface well with the client.

    Essential Functions

    + Position may involve extended periods of sitting, walking, standing and use of stairs.

    + Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.

    Work Environment

    + Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.

    + Position may require individual to travel daily to different areas on site.

    + All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and company safety standards.

    Equipment and Machines

    + Personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment including desk supplies.

    Attendance

    + Work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.

    + Must be dependable and punctual.

    + Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule

    Other Essential Functions

    • If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required.

    • Needs to have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills.

    • Must have ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives.

    • Government security clearance may be required in the future.

    • Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.

    • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

    • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.

    • Must pass a federal background investigation.

    • Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.

    • Must be able to drive tasks to completion; self-starter and proactive follow-through on assigned tasks is a must

    • Able to manage multiple tasks and set personal priorities; willing to reset priorities when they change and adapt to a dynamic environment

    • Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.
