Position Description
TheDepartment of Health Informatics & Information Management (https://www.health.txstate.edu/him/) ( HIIM ) atTexas State University (https://www.txst.edu/) ( TXST ) invites applications for one tenure-track faculty position at the rank and title of Assistant Professor. This is a full-time position beginning in 2026, located on the Round Rock Campus with a nine-month academic year appointment and possible summer employment. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications. All positions are subject to the availability of funds.
This position is based inRound Rock, TX. There is no funding available for relocation.
Job Duties:
+ Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses on topics which may include health informatics, artificial intelligence in healthcare, health information statistics and research, data analytics, information governance, health information security, health care delivery systems, healthcare revenue cycle, legal aspects of HIIM , health information services management, or other HIIM content areas.
+ Deliver courses on campus and online.
+ Conduct research and produce scholarly publications.
+ Pursue internal and external funding opportunities to support research, teaching, or service initiatives.
+ Participate in service activities at the department, college, university, community, and professional levels.
+ Contribute to curriculum development and continual improvement.
Required Qualifications
+ An earned PhD in Health Informatics, Health Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
+ Minimum 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline.
+ Master’s degree in Health Informatics or Health Information Management from an accredited institution.
+ Graduation from a CAHIIM -accredited program.
+ Current RHIA credential.
+ At least 5 years of experience in Health Information Management roles following achieving the RHIA credential.
+ Record of accomplishments in scholarship, teaching, and service, appropriate for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.
+ Demonstrated success with grant writing including external funding.
+ Documentation of online course preparation and delivery expertise.
+ Documentation of recent and ongoing professional development.
+ Demonstrated ability to develop an independent and collaborative plan for engaging in research, creative, and scholarly activity.
+ Active engagement with professional organizations AHIMA , IFHIMA , and AMIA .
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience with the application of health informatics and artificial intelligence in healthcare research and teaching.
+ Reside within a reasonable commute to the San Marcos or Round Rock campus.
+ Experience with Education Abroad or other international education programs.
+ Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly as evidenced by a presentation during the campus visit with faculty.
+ Completion of an online training course such as Online Learning Consortium ( OLC ) Online Teaching Certificate, Teaching Online at Texas State ( TOTS ), Quality Matters course, or other similar training.
