Position Summary
HIGHLIGHTS
The SUNY Geneseo Facilities Department is looking for a reliable and dedicated individual to join our team as a Motor Vehicle Operator.
As a Motor Vehicle Operator, SG-07, you will be responsible for operating a variety of equipment and motor vehicles used in:
+ construction
+ maintenance and repair activities
+ care and condition of campus grounds, gardens, athletic fields, walkways, parking lots, and roads
You will perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the construction and repair of buildings, roads, facilities, grounds, and other structures.
Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must possess a New York State Driver’s License appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. Candidates may be required to possess a CDL Class A, B, C or General Class D license.
Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
DEPARTMENT OPERATIONAL NEEDS
+ Working knowledge of the operation of a variety of self-propelled equipment and basic knowledge of the vehicle and traffic law as it applies to its safe and legal operation
+ Possession of, or willingness to achieve, initial certification in pesticide application (ornamental and turf)
+ Ability to understand and follow instructions, read, write, and communicate verbally.
+ Ability to climb, stoop, and perform medium to heavy labor and lifting (minimum of 50 pounds).
+ Satisfactory time and attendance record.
+ Possession of computer skills adequate to work with computerized maintenance management systems and other computerized applications as assigned.

Job Duty/Responsibility
Function 1: Operation & Maintenance of Motor Equipment
+ Operate vehicles on roadways, parking lots, grounds repair, and maintenance projects. Vehicles may include large front-end loaders, zone stripers, skid steer, box plow, forklift, backhoe, etc.
+ Utilize equipment and machinery to move mulch, repair potholes, complete parking lot stripping, load gravel onto trucks, pack dumpsters, turn soil for compost, and remove snow from campus grounds
+ Operate heavy dump trucks with plow, spreader attachments to simultaneously plow snow and control ice, transport and remove trees/shrubs/plants,
+ Assist with renovations of parking lots by tearing up concrete and blacktop
+ Pick up and deliver supplies and equipment
+ Load and unload heavy equipment, supplies, and furniture from trucks by physically lifting items or operating a hand truck or forklift
+ Move items to/from storerooms and/or warehouses and maintain storage areas

Function 2: Grounds Care & Maintenance
+ Operate lawnmowers and plows to maintain grounds, parking lots, and walkways
+ Operate tractors and related equipment to plant and care for campus grounds, roadways, parking lots, and athletic fields
+ Operate tractors and trucks to pick up supplies and collect trash
+ Clear sites and prepare them for planting; plants seeds, trees, shrubbery, and flowers.
+ Clean grounds, roadways, and structures by sweeping, raking, shoveling, mowing, and removing by hand debris, leaves, branches, snow, ice, trash, etc.
+ Maintain areas by cutting grass, pruning plants, cutting and removing dead branches and trees, placing mulching materials and stone, and fertilizing and watering plants and grass
+ Maintain athletic fields by cutting and raking grass, replacing sod in damaged areas, and lining and preparing fields
+ Maintain turf areas
+ Install and maintain fences, guide rails, signs, walkways, and snow fencing
+ Mix and apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers
+ Operate boom sprayer and hydra seeder

Function 3: Routine Maintenance and Repairs
+ Pump gas and add or drain water and/or antifreeze to the radiator, oil to the crankcase, air to tires, and hydraulic fluid to reservoirs.
+ Change oil and spark plugs.
+ Change air filters.
+ Checks fluid levels, tire pressure, safety devices, and control mechanisms of machines prior to operation.
+ Monitor gauges and fluid levels of machines during operations.
+ Clean, lubricate, and maintain machinery equipment, gears, cables, and tools.
+ Sharpen blades.
+ Mount and dismount major assemblies including plows and salt spreaders

Function 4: Assigned Special Projects
+ Set up and break down equipment for special events.
+ Lift and place equipment, ladders, and scaffolds.
+ Remove materials in preparation for construction by using jackhammers, sanders, paint strippers, and other hand tools and equipment.
+ Control traffic on the road for maintenance projects.
+ Patrol areas to determine damage, traffic, navigational hazards, vandalism, and condition.
+ Remove obstructions and debris, make simple repairs and report needed for larger repairs.
+ Dig and excavate ditches, paths, and water.

Function 5: Miscellaneous
+ Maintain all storage areas in a clean and organized manner.
+ Conduct pavement and storm system maintenance.
+ Lead utility stakeouts, digs, and repairs.
+ Accurately input time information into TMA .
