    Job Title: Data Center Structured Cabling Technician

    Job Description

    The Data Center Structured Cabling Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, and labeling of fiber optic and copper cabling infrastructure within a mission-critical data center environment. This role ensures all physical layer connectivity meets industry standards for performance, reliability, safety, and proper documentation.

    Responsibilities

    + Run, pull, install, and terminate various types of copper (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a) and fiber optic (single-mode and multimode) cables in trays and conduits.

    + Install support structures, including racks, cabinets, patch panels, and cable management systems (ladder racks, j-hooks, fiber guide).

    + Perform fiber and copper patching between network equipment and servers according to design specifications and work orders.

    + Conduct comprehensive testing and certification of all installed cabling using industry-standard equipment to diagnose and resolve faults, signal loss, and connection issues.

    + Apply clear, permanent labels to all cables, ports, and panels at both ends, adhering strictly to ANSI/TIA-606 or client-specific labeling standards.

    + Adhere to all safety protocols and industry best practices to ensure high-quality workmanship and a safe work environment.

    + Maintain accurate inventory records of all cabling, optics, and related materials and tools.

    + Coordinate with network engineers, IT staff, and other trades to facilitate new installations, upgrades, and maintenance activities.

    Essential Skills

    + Strong understanding of structured cabling systems and industry standards (TIA/EIA-568, ANSI/TIA-942, BICSI practices).

    + Proficiency in fiber optic handling, inspection, cleaning, and termination/splicing techniques (LC, SC, MTP connectors).

    + Expertise in using various testing equipment for both copper and fiber cabling.

    + Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly, work at heights from ladders, and work in tight or confined spaces.

    + Minimum 2-3 years of experience in low voltage cabling installation, preferably within a data center or commercial environment.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Troubleshooting skills.

    + Experience with installation and construction.

    + Knowledge of access control, rack and stack, cable tray, cable installation, cable assembly.

    + OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certifications.

    + Blueprint reading skills.

    Work Environment

     

    The role is based in a data center environment with working hours from Monday to Friday, 7 am to 3 pm. Be prepared for occasional night shifts and overtime opportunities as needed.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Manassas, VA 20110.

     

    Pay and Benefits

     

    The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
