    Hours: 12:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. (8 hours per day, 40 hours per week) - Core schedule

     

    IF APPOINTED PROVISIONALLY THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT MUST BE QUALIFIED TO TAKE THE CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION WHEN MADE AVAILABLE. FOR PERMANENT APPOINTMENT, THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST HOLD THE TITLE OF CUSTODIAN OR MUST BE CANVASSED AND REACHABLE FROM THE EXISTING CIVIL SERVICE LIST. A NON- COMPETITIVE PATHWAY TO FILL THIS CUSTODIAN POSITION MAY BE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE NY HELPS PROGRAM IN LIEU OF A PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT.

     

    JOB DUTIES: Support the Director of Facilities and the operations at the Administration Building.

     

    SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Good knowledge of commercial cleaning practices and procedures; working knowledge of the maintenance and repair practices and procedures related to buildings, its fixtures and operating equipment; working knowledge of the properties of various cleaning substances; ability to make semi-skilled plumbing, heating, electrical, carpentry and mechanical repairs; ability to operate plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems following established procedures; ability to use various cleaning equipment and products; ability to understand verbal and written instructions; ability to stand, stoop, bend and stretch for long periods of time; ability to set up and climb ladders or scaffolds; ability to supervise a small staff; thoroughness, dependability, physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before the date of the written test: A. Graduation from high school or vocational school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one year of experience in either-commercial cleaning practice, or in general building maintenance which included experience in any one of the following trades; Carpentry, Electrical, H.V. and A. C. Systems, Plumbing; OR B. Five years of experience in either-commercial cleaning practices, or in general building maintenance, which included experience in any one of the following trades: Carpentry, Electrical, H.V. and A.C. Systems, Plumbing; OR C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

     

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid Class D New York State driver's license at the time of appointment.
