    Examples of Duties

     

    + Evaluates and interprets disability documentation for eligibility determination

    + Implements reasonable accommodations consistent with current law

    + Complies with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations, section 504 and FERPA.

    + Meets with prospective students and current students to discuss accommodations and evaluate and interpret disability documentation to determine eligibility for accommodations

    + Advocates on behalf of students with faculty and staff to improve communication and ensure proper adherence of accommodations

    + Assist student with coordinating accommodations including testing accommodations, note takers and sign language interpreters

    + Collaborates with various college departments regarding technological needs.

    + Meets with area high school Child Study teams to assist with student enrollment

    + Assist Assistant Director with identifying personnel who provide accommodations

    + Represents college at activities related to disabled students

    + Coordinates services for students with temporary disabilities

    + Develops and implements retention initiatives

    + Provides academic, career, social/personal and transfer counseling individually and in groups for program participants, students enrolled in the Academy of Culinary Arts (ACA) and the general student population

    + Utilizes Ellucian CRM Advise to document services and communicate with students

    + Process student financial aid appeals

    + Maintains accurate student files, updates database system

    + Makes appropriate referrals

    + Provides crisis intervention and referral services

    + Works with external organizations that provide support and resources for students with disabilities

    + Maintains appropriate documentation for state and local reports

    + Prepares and submits reports in a timely manner

    + Monitors the academic status of program participants

    + Conducts orientation sessions for new students,

    + Facilitates seminars and workshops on various topics relevant to student development

    + Attends and reports on activities at advisory board meetings

    + Participates in professional development activities

    + Serves on appointed college committees

    + Identifies and implements best practices within the field

    + Performs other duties as assigned

    Typical Qualifications

    Education:

    + Master's degree in counseling, student personnel services, psychology, sociology, social work or related field

    + LSW or counselor certification preferred

    Experience:

    + Minimum of three years of significant experience working with the disabled population, preferably in a higher education environment

    + Demonstrated experience handling crisis situations

    Competencies and Skills:

    + Strong communication skills and computer literacy Practical knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act 1990 (including 2008 amendments) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973

    + This position may require flexible scheduling to include evenings and weekends and duties at any Atlantic Cape locations.
