    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Six (6) years of experience working in Archaeology or Anthropology. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the listed fields can substitute for the required years of experience.

    + Five (5) years of full-time supervisory experience

    + Five (5) years of experience conducting archaeological fieldwork or lab work consistent with state and federal standards and regulations

    + Knowledge of Florida’s archaeological resources.

    + Experience presenting at public meetings, forums, and/or conferences.

    + Ability to travel, conduct limited site visits, and plan and participate in events related to public outreach.

    + Valid Florida Driver’s License

    Preferences:

    + Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology as described at in the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines (https://www.nps.gov/subjects/historicpreservation/upload/standards-guidelines-archeology-historic-preservation.pdf) .

    + Five (5) years of experience working with state and federal laws related to archaeological resources.

    + Three (3) years of managerial experience including budget oversight, budget planning and/or purchasing

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    + Manages and coordinates all Bureau administrative, programmatic and operational activities. Supervises and coordinates activities, via supervisors, of the Underwater Archaeology Program, the Public Lands Archaeology Program, and the Collections and Conservation Lab section. Coordinates Bureau activities with the Director of the Division of Historical Resources and the Bureau of Historic Preservation.

    + Manages Bureau contracts, grants and agreements, including the development and implementation of interagency agreements regarding the management, survey, excavation and interpretation of archaeological sites on state-owned and controlled lands. Manage contracts under Rule 1A-31, F.A.C.

    + Assist with coordination of the Division's technical assistance activities; responds to general and specific public inquiries regarding management, survey, excavation and interpretation of archaeological sites on state-owned and controlled lands; coordinates the Bureau's activities regarding Archaeological Permits issued under Rule 1A-32, F.A.C.

    + Represents the Bureau at meetings and workshops, gives public presentations on Bureau programs and responds to media inquiries in consultation with the DOS Communications Director.

    + Manages archaeological properties leased by the Division from the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund, including Velda Mound, Floyd’s Mound, and the DeSoto Archaeological site/Governor Martin House and other archaeological sites. This includes managing contracts for lawn care and maintenance of the buildings on site.

    + Prepares draft rules and rule amendments as assigned; assists with draft legislation as assigned.

    + Performs other work-related duties as required.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    + Knowledge of Florida archaeology; archaeological site assessment and preservation; state and federal historic preservation laws; state personnel, budget and purchasing procedures.

    + Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing; to manage conflict due to differences in preservation philosophy; to plan.
