    About the Department

     

    Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies is an interdisciplinary, undergraduate unit of Western Washington University, dedicated to assisting students in taking an unusual degree of responsibility for the structure and content of their education specifically in the areas of creative arts and science.

    About the PositionFairhaven College maintains a vacancy pool of qualified persons interested in temporary teaching positions. Our Curriculum Committee refers entirely to these applications as openings occur through the academic year for temporary non-tenure track teaching positions on a part-time basis with occasional opportunities for temporary, full-time appointments. Positions may become available any time and are typically filled on a quarterly basis.

    Faculty should be prepared to teach in a learning community defined by five attributes:

    + Interdisciplinary study

    + Student designed studies and evaluation of learning

    + Examination of issues arising from a diverse society

    + Development of leadership and a sense of social responsibility

    + Curricular, instructional and evaluative innovation

     

    Teaching for Fairhaven is in-person and out of state work arrangements are not permitted.

    Required Qualifications

    + Master's degree or bachelor's degree with teaching experience

    + Demonstrated ability to teach an interdisciplinary curriculum

    + Experience with teaching methods which promote active, participatory learning

    + Experience working with a diverse student body, including a demonstrated ability and commitment to cultivating learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds

    + Understanding of Fairhaven's pedagogy

    Preferred Qualifications

    + A terminal degree

    + Positive teaching evaluations

    Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

     

    Fairhaven College Pay Scale

     

    Tier 1: MA with minimal teaching experience: $791/credit

     

    Tier 2: Ma and substantial teaching experience: $1,019/credit

     

    Tier 3: ABD and successful teaching experience $1,100/credit

     

    Tier 4: PhD, MFA or J.D and successful teaching experience $1,236
