Summary Joining the Secret Service, Office of the Deputy Director, Operational Medicine Division provides the opportunity to contribute to emergency medicine activities for the agency. In this role, you will develop and implement medical contingency plans, conduct assessments, ensure preparedness for medical emergencies, and integrate emergency medical operations into mission-critical activities. Responsibilities The selectee will serve as an Emergency Management Specialist (Preparedness and Response) in the Office of the Deputy Director, Operational Medicine Division. Typical work assignments include: Performing frontline emergency medical services by delivering first aid, CPR, basic life support or advance life support (airway management, medication administration, management of life-threatening injuries) to stabilize personnel during high pressure operations. Ensuring equipment readiness by managing the maintenance, inspection, and deployment of medical kits and equipment. Performing drills and integrating medical support into incident command structures, organizational exercises, and comprehensive after-action reviews to optimize response capabilities. Developing and implementing emergency, continuity, and medical contingency plans by conducting risk and vulnerability analyses, aligning resources, and coordinating interagency integration within the Incident Command System. Overseeing readiness of personnel, equipment, and facilities, and designs realistic drills and exercises that test medical and operational capabilities. Following each operation or exercise, directing structured after-action reviews, capturing lessons learned, and refining policies, SOPs, and training curricula to continuously strengthen agency preparedness and response effectiveness. Facilitating interagency communication and collaboration efforts to ensure a unified and effective response to crises, leveraging strategic partnerships to optimize resource utilization both internal to the agency and with other federal partners. This Emergency Management Specialist (Preparedness and Response) position starts at a salary of $101,401.00, GS -12, step 1, with promotion potential to $156,755.00, GS-13, step 10. Qualifications To be considered qualified for this position you must meet the following qualification requirements for the respective grade level in which you are applying. You qualify for the GS-12 level (starting salary $101,401.00) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level performing duties such as: Assisting in conducting medical risk assessments to identify potential threats, hazards, and recommending mitigation strategies. Coordinating communication and collaborating with public safety partners to support emergency response operations. Assisting in developing and delivering emergency preparedness or medical training and/or exercises. Providing emergency field medical care, including first aid, CPR, and basic life support (BLS). GS-12: Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must meet the following requirement to be considered qualified for the position: Must possess and maintain an active National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification. You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $120,579) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing duties such as: Conducting medical risk assessments to identify threats, hazards, and recommending mitigation strategies to senior leadership. Coordinating with public safety partners to execute emergency response operations and protocols. Assisting in designing and implementing emergency preparedness training and/or exercises. Providing emergency medical care, including first aid, CPR, basic life support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS). GS-13: Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must meet the following requirement to be considered qualified for the position: Must possess and maintain an active National Registry Paramedic (NRP) certification. The qualification requirements listed above must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
