Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE
Provide career advising services to undergraduate, graduate students, and limited alumni populations in designated departments, schools and industries/professions. Services include both one-on-one advising and program development and delivery in collaboration with faculty, staff, community organizations and employers, and students. Strategically engage partners across campus to provide these services as well as educate students on the career development process and opportunities that exist (internships, experiential opportunities, jobs, graduate school). Career communities you could be involved with is the Finance, Consulting, Marketing, Operations and Sales community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
ADVISING (45%)
+ Advise undergraduate, graduate/professional students, and selected groups of alumni in individual appointments and small groups about exploring career and education options and in developing effective experiential learning, job search and graduate and professional school search strategies.
+ Assist students in exploring career options and identifying sources of experiential education to further learn about their careers and industries of interests and to develop necessary skills/knowledge.
+ Maintain awareness on current trends and future of work to provide up-to-date information related to industry/market trends and to engage students in employer/alumni programming.
+ Develop, contribute, and update career exploration and development information on the web site; Utilize virtual technologies and resources in the delivery of service to students as appropriate (e.g., web sites, on-line surveys, blogs, podcasts, etc.)
+ Support assigned cohort of college advisees each academic year over college experience with course planning, academic policies, career education, campus resource referrals, probation, ULOA, and other decision making.
RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT (20%)
+ Build and strengthen relationships with external and internal stakeholders, including faculty/staff, employers, paraprofessional student organizations, and other campus units.
+ Serve as liaison to designated academic departments and university departments to assess and meet the needs of academic stakeholders and to promote collaboration across departments and majors.
+ Serve as liaison to assigned industries and Career Communities. Devise and implement strategy in conjunction with Greene Center team members for assigned areas.
+ Engage and involve alumni and industry professionals to participate in programs/events, as well as to learn industry content information relevant to student preparation.
+ Maintain relationships with employers, specifically alumni, to cultivate extern, intern, full-time and program opportunities. Through ongoing engagements, build rapport and market skills of students. Advise on branding strategies.
CAREER DESIGN INITIATIVES / DELIVERY (20%)
+ Develop and deliver content on topics to include career design, exploration, résumé writing, interviewing, internship/job search strategies, networking tactics and ethics in the workplace, graduate/professional school preparation.
+ Research, develop and deliver original industry-specific career programming and invite relevant guest speakers including alumni and employers based on assigned academic and industry areas.
+ Work with key stakeholders (faculty, student organizations) to create career/industry and employment specific events and workshops that facilitate student learning and skill development.
+ Coordinate and deliver presentations for various campus stakeholders (faculty, staff, prospective students, alumni, prospects, etc.).
+ Participate in various campus events involving alumni and families to engage those stakeholders in our services and programs.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT / ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES (10%)
+ Provide leadership for, coordination of, or assistance with various special programs and projects in line with strategic planning process (i.e.: supervising student staff, coordinating graduate assistants, orientation of new staff, etc.).
+ Cross-Functional Teams and University Initiatives – serve on various cross-functional teams to promote the vision and direction; contribute to the strategic planning in order to evolve center services and programs.
+ Play an active role in the collection of assessment data that serves as a driver for strategic decisions within.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
+ Bachelor’s degree. Required
+ Masters degree. Open to diverse industry and degree background. Preferred
+ 2 years of experience. Open to diverse industry and stakeholder engagement experience (can include graduate school graduate assistantship). Required
+ Project management experience. Preferred
+ Experience advising students on career-related topics. Preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
+ Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at UR. Required
+ Ability to collaborate cross-functionally in the office environment and to interface with multiple stakeholders. Required
+ Ability to assess and report student-learning outcomes. Preferred
+ Ability to embrace and drive change and to organize and effectively manage multiple priorities, programs, and projects. Required
+ Exceptional communication (written, oral, presentation). Demonstrated proficiency designing and delivering presentations. Required
+ Demonstrated experience leading teams and developing positive relationships, partnerships, and alliances. Required
