    Position Summary

    The Medical Technologist is a full-time position responsible for performing all phases of laboratory testing, including pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic procedures. This role participates in rotating weekend coverage across all departments. The ideal candidate maintains professionalism and composure in challenging situations, actively seeks opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs, and supports the development and implementation of new laboratory policies and procedures.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    + Receive and assess specimens for adequacy prior to testing.

    + Accurately label all specimens with barcodes following entry into the LIS.

    + Perform necessary specimen processing steps including centrifugation, mixing, and culture plating.

    + Maintain quality assurance logs to document inadequate or missing specimens.

    + Perform and document routine instrument maintenance and calibrations.

    + Conduct and record all required quality control measures; ensure testing is not initiated until QC results are acceptable.

    + Assist with training and oversight of new employees and lab assistants across technical areas.

    + Maintain documentation of required annual continuing education.

    + Perform all testing in accordance with SOPM guidelines.

    + Enter test results into the LIS and confirm accuracy of the instrument-to-LIS interface.

    + Review and release test results; consult with a senior technologist regarding questionable or critical results.

    + Ensure all critical values are promptly communicated to the ordering provider once validated.

    + Update patient charts with all relevant notes regarding specimen adequacy and test-specific information.

    + Provide physicians with technical information related to test results.

    + Contribute to individual or team projects and committees as assigned by the Technical Supervisor or Laboratory Manager.

    + Perform additional duties as required by the Laboratory Director or Manager.

    Education & Experience Requirements

    + Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or in a chemical, physical, or biological science (ASCP/ASM certification preferred).

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.

    + Ability to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues.

    + Basic understanding of IT systems and electronic medical record (EMR) platforms.

    **Pay Details:** $28.00 to $30.00 per hour
