    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    The City of Rochester now welcomes applications for

     

    Part-time Community Service Officer

     

    This opportunity is designed for individuals who are enrolled in a Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice program and are currently or will be eligible to be licensed in the state of Minnesota as Peace Officers within the next two years

     

    Community Service Officers perform general duty civilian public safety work which may consist of protecting life and property, maintaining order, preventing crimes, as well as enforcing laws and ordinances.

    2026 starting wage is $28.25 per hour.

     

    Selected candidates must pass a thorough background investigation and successfully complete both a psychological assessment and a medical examination prior to obtaining a formal job offer.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Rochester Community Service Officers:

    + perform a support function to the police department’s patrol division

    + respond to and handle non-emergency calls for service

    + Enforce parking violations

    + Interview victims and witnesses in the investigation of non-emergency calls

    + Collect evidence from crime scenes

    + Write detailed police reports

    + Provide traffic direction at special events, accidents, and other incidents as requested

    + Explain police, animal or parking control procedures to the public

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Applicants must:

    + Possess a high school diploma or equivalent GED

    + Be currently enrolled in or have successfully completed an accredited Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice or similar program earning a 2- or 4-year degree

    + Possess a valid driver's license.

    CPR/First Aid/Emergency Medical Responder or Emergency Medical Technician Certifications

    Pay and Benefits:

    + The 2026 wage range for this opportunity is $28.25 to $35.39 per hour. Five years would be required to reach the top of the range.

    + Pro-rated benefits are available for individuals working 20 or 30 hours per week.
