York Precision Machining & Hydraulics is seeking an Engineering Intern for a 12-week, hands-on internship that provides exposure to many facets of our engineering and manufacturing work in an ISO 9001:2015 certified, ITAR-registered environment.
About the internship
This internship is designed to give a broad engineering perspective, including product design, manufacturing processes, quality, and project support within a precision machining and hydraulics company. The intern will also shadow other departments to understand how engineering interacts across the organization, particularly in support of defense and other high-reliability customers.
Key responsibilities
During week 1, the intern will complete introductions, orientation, safety trainings, partner paperwork, and receive an overview of the internship schedule and assignments. The intern will also review scope, objectives, and available engineering resources with Engineering leadership, begin assigned work, and observe testing and production activities with Engineering, Quality, or Project Management as appropriate.
From weeks 2–12, responsibilities will include:
+ Daily check-ins with engineering managers for direction and updates.
+ Performing 3-D modeling of primary parts, potentially for FARO and CMM inspection use and active York Precision projects.
+ Updating existing models and drawings to reflect current GD&T and engineering best practices.
+ Collecting setup time data and helping create setup procedures to support manufacturing efficiency improvements.
+ Supporting document and knowledge management, including organizing, scanning, and cataloguing engineering drawings and related assets.
+ Participating in solving real-time engineering challenges and technical reviews of designs, engineering calculations, and spreadsheet development from 2-D prints.
+ Contributing to “eliminating waste” efforts and continuous improvement initiatives in manufacturing and engineering processes.
+ Learning and applying inspection tools and techniques alongside the Quality team, including identifying characteristics to measure, creating CAD/CAM models, and supporting CMM programs.
+ Reviewing technical content (such as social media posts) for engineering accuracy as needed.
Desired qualifications
+ Current enrollment in a Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related Engineering degree program.
+ Familiarity with 3-D modeling/CAD tools and basic GD&T concepts.
+ Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and comfort working in a manufacturing environment.
+ Ability to collaborate with engineers, quality, and production staff and communicate clearly in both written and verbal form.
Schedule and reporting
This is a 12-week internship, with a full-time weekly schedule to be determined based on academic and business needs. The intern will report primarily to the Engineering Managers, with regular interaction with the People & Culture Manager and cross-functional teams.
