    Job Description:

    Full-time opportunity that covers Middletown and Old Saybrook. 8 hour workday, 40 hour, including one evening/ week. Additional time, as needed to complete record keeping laboratory work and administrative duties. On-call requires 24 hour availability for 1-2 weeks/month.

     

    Assures the on-going growth, development and achievement of dentistry department within one of country’s largest FQHC dentistry programs. Recruits, retains, mentors, and supports a cadre of dentists, hygienists, dental assistants and support staff capable of responding to the complex oral health needs of a diverse population. Oversees the clinical activities throughout the department from prevention to restoration, and assures full adherence to standard both within the traditional site offices and in newer community settings such as schools. Fully responsible for development of clinical, productivity, financial targets and achievement of those targets. Collaborates with finance and administrative departments to ensure site needs are met and quality of site services and equipment are optimal. Represents CHC in appropriate local, state, and national opportunities.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Provides appropriate diagnosis and treatment planning for patients complex in nature and aligned with an integrated care model

    + Responds to dental emergencies with an emphasis of preventative care and maintenance.

    + Makes appropriate referral of patients to specialist or alternative providers, as needed.

    + Provides the most appropriate services, based on patients’ dental, medical and financial status.

    + Meets quarterly productivity targets outlined by CHC.

    + Ensures all electronic charting, documentation, and telephone encounters are in compliance with agency standards.

    + Completes timely and accurate laboratory prescriptions to ensure the proper completion of prosthetic cases.

    + Ensures strict compliance with safety and infection control standards set forth by CHC’s policy and procedures

    + Ensures continuous maintenance of dental facility and equipment in collaboration with the appropriate dental team members.

    + Provide diagnosis, treatment and referral for dental emergencies, after hours, for CHC patients, via on-call service.

    + Provides timely response to calls and document results.

    + Participates in clinical staff training, evaluation of and assessment of dental services and quality assurance program.

    + Participates in continuing education activities to improve clinical dental skills.

    + Maintains compliance with agency annual Training/Education requirements as outlined in Policies & Procedures manual (Working Safely, EOC, Abuse trainings, etc.)

    ON-SITE RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Supports others team members in ensuring appropriate diagnosis and treatment planning for patients complex in nature and aligned with an integrated care model

    + Provides overall clinical supervision of the dental department of the assigned CHC site and provides ongoing clinical patient care. Clinical supervision shall include clinical orientation of new clinicians to the site, completion of six-month evaluations for new clinicians, and annual performance appraisals thereafter.

    + Develops Peer Review tools in conjunction with other CHC on-site Dental Directors and the Chief Dental Officer of CHC, and supervises the implementation of peer review on a periodic basis.

    + Reviews clinical performance of each provider through annual performance appraisals and periodic peer review activities, and is responsible for addressing and correcting any problems with clinical performance that are identified.

    + Ensures that performance appraisals for clinical staff are completed in a timely manner as dictated by CHC’s performance appraisal policy.

    + Provides leadership and supervision in developing and carrying out dental quality assurance activities at the site, both specific to the site and in collaboration with the dental quality improvement committee of CHC.

    + Ensures that the dental staff adheres to all policies and procedures necessary for CHC to obtain on-going licensure by the Connecticut DPH and certification by JCAHO.

    + Works with the Site Director in development of site-specific new services and programs and modifications of existing services.

    + Meets no less than quarterly with CHC's Chief Dental Officer and other on-site Dental Directors to discuss both agency-wide and site-specific issues of concern.

    + Provides guidance and leadership in identification and resolution of problems/barriers that impede effective and efficient quality patient care.

    + Provides guidance and leadership in the development of clinicians’ templates and schedules in order to help CHC to achieve its productivity goals.

    + Is responsible for monitoring productivity data and taking appropriate steps to ensure that productivity goals are met.

    + Works collaboratively with On-site Medical director to ensure patient access to safe, appropriate, high quality medical care.

    + Collaborates with Site Director in development of annual site-specific budget relative to the medical department and actively monitors and reviews financial data and budget projections.

    + Represents the Community Health Center in relationships with local and state professional societies, health officials, and community organizations.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    + Required Skills and Education

    + Residency: GPR or AEGD certificate Or Public Health Service: NHSC

    + DDS or DMD degree from accredited dental school is required.

    + Preferred Skills

    + Five years clinical experience, preferably in community or public health setting.

    + One to three years supervisory experience.

    + Interest in providing care to diverse patient population.

    + Knowledge of foreign language (esp. Spanish) is desirable

    + Required Licenses/Certifications

    + State of Connecticut Dental license (NERB or Regional Dental Boards) DEA (Federal and State) Active licensure

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Requires good to excellent manual dexterity and fine motor coordination; good vision; physical mobility and flexibility; good reflexes; light lifting required; potential exposure to blood borne pathogens through direct patient contact- must follow OSHA standards and universal precautions.
