UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital has a unique pharmacy that supports various units such as Neonatal ICU, Postpartum, Acute Care, Cancer Center, Surgical Services, Outpatient facilities, etc. The pharmacy also supports doctors conducting investigations and research. The Director, Pharmacy will report to our Chief Nursing Officer, with matrix reporting to the Vice President of Pharmacy Operations through the service line. The department is supported by the pharmacy service line and there is a transition plan in place with the current Director. The Director will support a team of about five direct reports and one hundred indirect reports, the implementation of transitioning to EPIC, and a diverse patient population of all genders as care has expanded outside of solely focusing on care for women.
The Pharmacy Director oversees pharmacy operations and pharmaceutical care across one or more hospital sites. This role ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, TJC standards, and hospital policies while supporting strategic initiatives focused on automation, efficiency, financial stewardship, formulary management, staff development, and regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Lead daily pharmacy operations in alignment with patient care needs, hospital strategy, and regulatory standards.
+ Ensure compliance with all state, federal, and accrediting requirements; maintain systems for medication oversight and distribution.
+ Recruit, mentor, and develop pharmacy managers, pharmacists, and technicians.
+ Drive implementation of pharmacy information systems and automation to enhance workflow, safety, and financial performance.
+ Optimize resource utilization and monitor budgets to ensure cost-effective services.
+ Champion process improvement and customer service excellence across all clinical interactions.
+ Participate in committees, education, and research initiatives to advance pharmacy's role in patient care.
+ Support care delivery for diverse patient populations in inpatient and outpatient settings, including medicine, surgery, ICU, transplant, oncology, cardiology, and more.
+ Complete required administrative reporting and continuing education to maintain licensure.

Master's degree in pharmacy administration or healthcare management (MS, MBA, MHA) preferred.
5 years of pharmacy leadership experience (inpatient preferred) of progressive complexity OR HSPAL residency plus 2 years of pharmacy leadership experience (inpatient preferred) of progressive complexity required.
PGY-1 postgraduate pharmacy residency preferred.
