Position Summary
Ataero is seeking a Senior Research Fellow to support a government customer in a senior advisory and research capacity. The selected candidate will serve in a critical leadership role supporting Special Access Programs (SAP) across a range of military functional domains, including Electronic Warfare (EW), Cyberspace Operations, and Information Operations (IO) .
The ideal candidate will possess extensive military experience (15+ years preferred) , particularly within MAGTF operations, EMSO, cyber-related missions, or U.S. Marine Corps doctrine , and demonstrate a strong background in independent, forward-looking research and analysis .
Key Responsibilities
+ Plan, conduct, and participate in academic and professional forums, including seminars, conferences, and workshops at the local, regional, national, and international levels.
+ Advise government project officers on research priorities and emerging focus areas.
+ Develop and contribute to information briefings, reports, plans, and recommendations regarding:
+ Combat capabilities
+ Warfighting concepts
+ Experimentation and wargaming
+ Science and technology investments
+ Coordinate and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including:
+ Military services
+ Interagency partners
+ Industry and academia
+ Think tanks and research institutions
+ Science and technology organizations
+ Non-traditional innovation sources and relevant international entities
+ Conduct horizon scanning of the future operating environment to identify indicators of strategically significant change impacting the Nation, DoD, and Marine Corps.
+ Analyze global, long-range strategic patterns and trends related to emerging threats, technologies, adversaries, allies, partners, and regions at risk of instability or conflict.
+ Perform independent research and analysis of national and international forecasts across social, technological, economic, environmental, political, informational, and military domains.
+ Produce authoritative, publishable articles, assessments, commentaries, and staff products.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) OR successful completion of a resident Service War College as part of Professional Military Education (PME), along with a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following or related disciplines:
+ National Security Affairs
+ International Relations
+ Engineering Sciences
+ Other relevant fields
+ Ability to effectively engage and communicate with senior government and military leadership.
+ Experience reviewing documents, conducting research, and communicating with external partners at TS/SCI and SAP levels across cyber, EW, and/or IO functional areas.
+ Demonstrated expert knowledge of all four elements of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) :
+ Command Element (CE)
+ Aviation Combat Element (ACE)
+ Ground Combat Element (GCE)
+ Logistics Combat Element (LCE)
+ Active Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain SCI.
+ U.S. citizenship required due to the sensitive nature of the role.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Minimum of 15 years of military experience , including non-combat arms Military Occupational Specialties (MOS), particularly in logistics, communications, or intelligence disciplines.
+ Operational experience conducting or supporting MAGTF operations, including Joint and Combined Operations.
+ Proven experience in conducting in-depth research, comprehensive analysis, and thorough documentation of findings, courses of action, and conclusions.
+ Background in interagency operations, combat development, defense acquisition, or related mission areas.
+ Demonstrated ability to think critically and communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely in both written and verbal formats.
Highly Desirable Qualifications
+ Futures-focused experience , including futures analysis, concept development, force design, experimentation, wargaming, or participation in formal futures organizations or initiatives.
+ Futures-related education or certifications , coursework, fellowships, or professional development (e.g., futures studies, strategic foresight, innovation, or advanced warfighting concepts).
+ Doctorate or additional advanced degree in a related discipline.
+ Deep, hands-on MAGTF operational or institutional experience , particularly within planning, experimentation, or doctrine development.
+ Recognized strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to anticipate emerging challenges, synthesize complex information, and translate insights into actionable recommendations.
