Job Description
Old Dominion University invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor in Sport Management (tenure-track position) to start in Fall 2026. The Sport Management program offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees using both in-person and asynchronous online delivery formats. Job responsibilities include teaching two courses per semester in the Sport Management curriculum, developing and maintaining a nationally visible research program, pursuit of external funding, and service to the university, profession, and community. Further, the successful candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and participation in program decision-making.

Minimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications
A doctoral degree in Sport Management or a closely related field ( ABD doctoral students with a completion date prior to July 15th, 2026 will be considered for Assistant Professor applicants).
Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities
+ A doctoral degree in Sport Management or a closely related field ( ABD doctoral students with a completion date prior to July 15th, 2026 will be considered for Assistant Professor applicants).
+ A strong commitment to scholarship and research demonstrated by a record of empirical research publications and/or potential to develop and maintain a nationally visible research agenda including grant submissions.
+ Ability to teach a variety of sport management courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise graduate student research (M.S. and Ph.D.), serve on committees, and participate in program governance, decision-making, and professional leadership.
+ Strong verbal, written, and technology skills.
Preferred Qualifications
+ A record of peer-reviewed publications in recognized journals and a record of grant procurement.
+ A well-defined area of research expertise in Sport Management.
+ University teaching experience, including developing and teaching asynchronous courses and effective integration of technology in the instructional process.
+ Program leadership/administration experiences for candidates applying for Associate Professor.
+ Experience as a practitioner in the sport industry.
