    The 14th Street Y is a vibrant Jewish community center located in Downtown Manhattan. Each year, tens of thousands of New Yorkers of all ages, races, and ethnicities come to 14Y as members, visitors, or partners to experience our high quality and varied programs centered around arts and culture, early childhood education, summer camps, fitness and aquatics, Jewish life, and older adult services.

     

    We are seeking a part-time Teacher for our After School Program Teachers are responsible for creating and implementing high-quality programming for Afterschool. We are currently hiring for the following Teaching positions: Art, Sports, Theater, Science, and Creative Writing/Film Teachers are passionate about teaching their area of expertise in an informal, inclusive, educational setting.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Program Management

     

    + Submit weekly lesson plans to Afterschool Program Manager

    + Develop and execute 40-minute long activities for groups of up to 18 students at a time grouped by age and inclusive of varying needs and abilities

    + Develop an execute month-long, progressive, and comprehensive programs for afternoon elective time for 15 kids at a time for students in K-5th grades inclusive of varying needs and abilities.

    + Incorporate Afterschool values and seasonal themes rooted in Jewish sensibilities into programming

    + Be available to work from 3:30 - 5:30pm at least one day per week from January 5, 2026 to June 5, 2026.

     

    Logistics

     

    + Be responsible for overall cleanliness and organization of spaces and supplies

    + Work with After School Assistant and Program Manager on ordering of supplies for program units, as well as maintaining an organized inventory and balanced budget

    + Exhibit and maintain strong time management capabilities

    + Communicate as needed with After School Program Manager and Inclusion Manager regarding student needs and concerns

    Leadership and Supervision:

    + As a member of the After School Teaching Staff, model professional behavior for students and other staff at all times

    + Attend required days of orientation and training, afterschool, and staff meetings as scheduled

    + Proactively solve problems and motivate colleagues as difficult moments present themselves throughout the day; encourage flexibility and understanding as means to achieve common goals

    + Establish and promote a commitment to the mission and vision of After School

    + Develop clear roles for Group Leaders during programming

    + Learn and implements After School’s restorative approach to supervision and behavior management

    QUALIFICATIONS

    + Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required

    + 3+ years of experience working with elementary school-age children

    + Professional-level experience in their field of expertise

    + Previous experience as a supervisor or mentor preferred

    + Excellent organizational and oral communication skills

    + Ability to interact with children and colleagues of diverse cultural and social backgrounds

    + Fast learner with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
