+ Position Summary
+ Under general direction, provides basic and advanced emergency medical care for assessment/evaluation, treatment, stabilization, and transport of the ill and injured for 911 response, inter-facility transfers, event medical support, and disasters. Provides security, emergency/code response, and patient care functions in hospital. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care.

+ The EMT/Basic is responsible for delivering and administering high quality care and transportation to ill and injured persons.
+ The EMT/Basic must demonstrate clinical competency and compassion in providing for physical and emotional needs of patients.
+ Ability to assess patients with medical conditions with findings reflected in the patient record.
+ Implements interventions consistent with protocols and documents response to treatment.
+ Prepares equipment and supplies.
+ Checks medical equipment and supplies on a daily basis.
+ Restocks and cleans unit after each mission.
+ Knowledgeable in the use of radios and communication systems.
+ Operates required vehicle(s) in a safe manner to perform required duties of the position.
+ Participates in staffing special events as required
+ Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
+ Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
+ Current certification as Nationally Registered EMT/Basic.
+ Current AHA Health Care Provider CPR certification.
+ Valid driver’s/Chauffeurs License required.
+ Current Iowa EMT/Basic certification.
+ Must meet MGMC’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards
+ Must be at least 18 years of age, and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
+ Mandatory Reporter training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
+ Organizational Requirements:
+ Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.
+ Preferred Qualifications:
+ An associates degree is preferred.
+ Currently enrolled in a paramedic program.
+ Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
+ Skill in effective oral and written communication in English.
+ Knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications.
+ Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
+ Active Listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
+ Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
+ Ability to manage one’s time effectively.
+ Ability to pursue and foster a sense of team and partnership across all disciplines.
