Violence Intervention Specialist

The position is part of a newly established hospital-based violence intervention program (HVIP) at UVA Medical Center, aimed at preventing and reducing community and interpersonal violence among high-risk youth and adults. The role focuses on providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary services to address the underlying risks and social determinants of violence, while also delivering direct patient services such as needs assessments, mentorship, case management, and coordination with community services.

+ Conduct assessments to identify and address unmet needs while in the hospital and/or community-based setting
+ Develop and implement individualized case plans, monitoring progress, and connecting individuals with appropriate community resources
+ Work closely with hospital staff, social workers, community organizations and other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive care
+ Provide support and violence retaliation intervention utilizing peer mentorship and trauma-informed care principles
+ Provide long-term follow-up and case management to enrolled patients along with inpatient and outpatient care coordination including in-person home and community visits
+ Maintain accurate records of all client and potential client interactions, progress and outcomes
+ Offer trauma informed support to victims and their families
+ Co-facilitate psycho-educational groups for patients and families
+ Contribute to the development of violence prevention programs and initiatives
+ Participate in ongoing training and supervision to enhance their skills and knowledge
+ Respect and honor for client’s rights and responsibilities and demonstration of professional boundaries and ethics
+ Provide hospital and community outreach and education to engage and educate healthcare trainees, hospital staff, community members and stakeholders on violence prevention and intervention strategies, and trauma-informed care
+ Engage in additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
**Education** : High School diploma or equivalent.
**Experience** :
+ 2 years of community involvement experience
+ Experience working with survivors of violence, particularly in a hospital or community setting
+ Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and a certificate of auto insurance
+ Sensitivity to and compassion for the diverse experience of people who have experience potentially traumatic events
+ Proficiency in using computers, email, and relevant software such as Microsoft Suite
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job may require standing or sitting for prolonged periods, frequently traveling and bending/stooping. Proficient verbal and written communication, auditory and visual skills.
Position Compensation Range: $19.50 - $38.99 Hourly
