    The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) invites you to apply today to be considered for a position that provides customer service to the citizens of Maryland every day. MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MTA team.

     

    The Supervisor, Services, and Inspection is the supervisory level of work responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive program for the inspection, testing, repair, and maintenance of rail vehicles. Employees supervise personnel performing tasks associated with all aspects of maintaining a rail car. The supervisor participates in budget preparation, is responsible for the financial accounting of labor and materials, and interfaces with training staff personnel to assist and support in training activities. Employees keep abreast of changes in transit equipment, systems, technology, and operations. Employees directly supervise technicians, A and B repairmen, and other employees. Employees receive managerial supervision from the Superintendent, Rail Car maintenance, or other designated official. Employees are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Employees are required to travel and work outdoors at various locations throughout the MTA service area, in all types of weather conditions.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Plan and coordinate shop operations, including staffing, parts availability, and maintenance scheduling; monitor and evaluate shop performance and vehicle maintenance quality.

    + Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs; recommend and administer operational policies and procedures.

    + Assist in the selection, training, motivation, and evaluation of assigned staff; support employee development, correct performance deficiencies, and enforce disciplinary and termination procedures as needed.

    + Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for equipment procurement, repairs, and replacements.

    + Collaborate with other divisions, departments, and external agencies; facilitate communication and resolve sensitive or complex issues.

    + Support the resolution of labor relations matters, including grievances and employee concerns.

    + Ensure compliance with all applicable MTA, EPA, and OSHA regulations and safety standards.

    + Attend and actively participate in professional meetings; stay informed on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in transit vehicle maintenance.

     

    The current vacancy is located at the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) in Baltimore, Maryland.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and satisfactory completion of a program in a formal vocational or trade school or other formal training in one or more of the following fields: High-voltage Electrical power and related Control systems; Electronic Communications systems; Railroad Signaling and Train Control Systems, Electronic Fare Collection Systems, Railcar Electronic Systems, Railcar Mechanic Systems or other complex electro-mechanical or electronic systems.

     

    Experience: Five (5) years of experience in one of the fields listed above.

    SUBSTITUTION INFORMATION:

    1. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and processes, overseeing or coordinating unit operations, or functioning as a staff assistant on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    1. The Supervisor of Service and Inspection is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Employees may be assigned to work various shifts with various days off.

    2. Employees are required to maintain a reliable communication link (telephone or beeper) for the purpose of emergency call-back requirements.

    3. Candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug testing in accordance with Code of Federal Regulations 49, Federal Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol Testing Protocols, and the Federal Transit Administration Alcohol Testing Rules.

    4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Federal Regulations 49, Federal Department of Transportation Drug Alcohol Testing Protocols, and Federal Transit Administration Alcohol Testing Rules.

     

    Licenses & Certifications

     

    Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

    The incumbent in this position is not a member of a covered bargaining unit.
