    Purpose

     

    Support the design, analysis, and development of overhead electrical transmission and distribution (T&D) line projects. Assist senior engineering staff with structure modeling, line routing, sag/tension analysis, and preparation of technical documentation to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective power delivery solutions for utility clients.

    Responsibilities

    Leadership and Direction

    + Receive close supervision and detailed guidance on project objectives, specific tasks, and design procedures.

    + Work follows clearly defined processes and is reviewed thoroughly by more senior engineering staff.

    + Seek direction as needed to ensure adherence to established engineering standards and practices.

    At the Operational and Company Level

    + Work collaboratively with internal team members, including project managers, senior engineers, and drafters, to support project execution and meet schedule requirements.

    + Contribute to the preparation of engineering deliverables, drawings, calculations, and documentation.

    Do the Work

    + Assist in the design and analysis of overhead transmission and distribution lines using PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE for various structure types and voltage classes.

    + Perform structure modeling, line routing, sag/tension calculations, and the development of plan/profile drawings.

    + Conduct engineering tasks related to conductor clearances, sags, blow-out, design criteria, and compliance reviews.

    + Support the preparation of bill of materials, specifications, and other technical project documentation.

    + Perform field reviews to gather data, validate existing conditions, and support design decisions.

    + Ensure adherence to applicable standards, including NESC, utility specifications, and relevant codes.

    + Assist senior staff in addressing client needs by providing timely, accurate, and well-documented design support.

    + Exhibit professionalism and effective communication in interactions with client teams when required.

    + Help support client-focused outcomes by contributing to high-quality deliverables.

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution required.

    + Entry level position, 0-3 years of relevant industry experience.

    + PLS-CADD experience required; PLS-POLE experience preferred.

    + Familiarity with power transmission and distribution design principles, NESC requirements, and utility standards preferred.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); AutoCAD experience a plus.

    + Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

    + Ability to work independently and collaboratively within project teams.

    Physical Demands and Working Environment

    + Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and

    + Occasional outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures,

    + excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.

    + Occasional mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or

    + kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

    + Occasional local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be

    + required according to the needs of the business.

    + Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.

    + Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.

    + Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
