    Job Details:

    Job Summary:

    The Sr Trauma Registry is responsible for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of data and reports related to the trauma patient population. They must work in conjunction with the Trauma Team and update/maintain the Trauma Registry system as needed.

    Responsibilities:

    + Works collaboratively with all members of the Trauma Team and reports to the Trauma Program Manager (Nurse Clinician).

    + The Trauma Registry Team employs multiple data validation processes to ensure high-quality data entry and trauma registry data is used for performance improvement, outreach, education, and research.

    + Utilizes basic principles for identifying data and ensuring complete and accurate data entry; identifies reportable cases, reviews and abstracts information from the medical record, and enters medical information into the Trauma Registry database.

    + Coordinates with Information Systems & Hospital Information Management to determine inclusion criteria and appropriate patient population.

    + Reviews and ensures coding accuracy of ICD-10-CM/PCS for all diagnoses, procedures, and operations as documented by Hospital Information Management and assigns new codes when necessary.

    + Assists in providing data from the Trauma Registry system in order to compile reports and statistical information for Performance Improvement-Patient Safety meetings, research, injury prevention outreach and trauma education.

    + Manages daily operations of the Trauma Registry system, which includes utilizing basic principles for identifying high-quality data and ensuring complete and accurate data entry.

    + Participates in continuing educational opportunities with a focus on trauma, trauma systems, coding and/or data systems.

    + Participates in the Trauma Service American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma review preparation and site review.

    + Maintains a professional appearance and a clean, safe environment.

    + Respects patients by recognizing their rights; maintaining confidentiality.

    + Utilizes technology, including specialized software as applicable, to maximize productivity.

    + Performs word processing; creates Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations; prepares reports.

    + Develops and maintains electronic files as necessary.

    + Prioritizes and manages multiple projects simultaneously; solicits, researches, and compiles supporting materials for projects; follows through on issues in a timely manner.

    + Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills; provides customer service; assists other support staff as necessary; collaborates with all levels of internal leadership, management, and staff as well as outside clients, vendors, and other external parties.

    + Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    Experience:

    Minimum of 2 years of Trauma Registry system experience, required. Three years of experience in a hospital or health care facility where the primary function of the position was obtaining, coding and reporting information using ICD-9, ICD-10 CPT or HCPCS codes, required.

    Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent, required. Associates or Bachelor’s Degree, preferred.

    Licenses / Certifications:

    CSTR and CAISS (required within 2 years of employment).

    Other:

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point).
