    Summary

    Dispatchers answer telephone calls, monitor closed circuit security system, fire alarm systems, radio traffic and dispatch patrol officers to areas of need.

     

    Functions

     

    Remains in radio contact with patrol officers during entire shift.

     

    Monitors radio communications with State Police Executive Protect detail.

     

    Provide information from the Arkansas Crime Information Center and National Crime Information Center databases as needed and requested by State Capitol Police personnel.

     

    Maintain ACIC training information and other files as required by ACIC and NCIC policy.

     

    Compiles and submits reports of tickets written by officers.

     

    Enters and compiles records data for dispatch logs, incident reports, and personnel.

     

    Provide information and directions to visitors, legislators, and staff as requested or as needed.

     

    Receives and distributes mail.

     

    Other duties may be assigned as necessary by the Secretary of State and/or Chief of Police.

    The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.

     

    The employee is occasionally required to stand, reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.

     

    The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

     

    Specific vision abilities required for the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

     

    The noise level is usually moderate.

     

    The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic and/or caustic chemicals, and loud noises.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

     

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedure manuals.

     

    Ability to write reports and correspondence.

     

    Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to visitors, legislators, constitutional officers and other employees.

     

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

     

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Must be 21 years of age, free of any felony convictions and meet all qualification standards as set by the Secretary of State and ACIC/NCIC.

     

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

     

    Six months experience with computer operations.

    ACIC & NCIC operator’s certification required.
