    Institutional Research Specialist

    POSITION DETAILS

    The Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College seeks an innovative and detail-oriented Institutional Research Specialist to advance the School’s data and technology initiatives and scheduling processes. This position blends data management, technical development, and efficient data and technology-enabled course scheduling to enhance student success, academic operations, and program effectiveness. The specialist will report to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Innovation, working closely with academic departments, program offices, and technology teams to enable efficient, data-driven academic operations in the Zicklin School.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Create, manage, and update dashboards, using tools such as Tableau and Power BI and data sources such as CUNY’s Tableau Insights, to visualize patterns in enrollment, student performance, retention, program progress, and various other datasets pertaining to Zicklin School academic programs.

    + Interface with the Office of the Registrar, Zicklin’s academic departments, and academic program offices to support data-driven decision-making, strategic planning, and capacity management in Zicklin’s academic programs.

    + Design and maintain, in collaboration with departmental schedulers, comprehensive academic course schedules for graduate and undergraduate programs, including various sessions that are part of Spring, Summer, Winter, and Fall semesters.

    + Collect, analyze, and report capacity and enrollment data and various key performance indicators including but not limited to flow rate, utilization, idle capacity, etc. to support responsive scheduling and continuous optimization of course offerings.

    + Collaborate across organizational boundaries including with department schedulers, program office directors, and the registrar’s office to address key organizational challenges and to ensure seamless scheduling operations.

    + Monitor enrollment trends and partner with academic leadership to adapt schedule capacity to meet student demand.

    + Supervise and train part-time staff or graduate assistants assigned to scheduling-related data activities.

    + Develop, test, and deploy workflow digitization and automation prototypes (using MS Flows/Power Automate, MS Power Apps, MS SharePoint, etc.) to streamline various academic operations processes.

    + Organize and deliver technology workshops (e.g., coding, MS Excel, Tableau, databases) for academic programs staff to advance data literacy and technical skills.

    + Collaborate with the Zicklin School’s and Baruch College’s Institutional Research Specialists, academic departments, and other Zicklin School units to ensure best practices in security, documentation, and user training.

    + May supervise part-time staff, graduate assistants, or interns as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + A graduate degree in data management, academic scheduling, or technology project development, preferably in a higher education environment.

    + Demonstrated experience with Tableau or similar data visualization tools, workflow automation platforms and student information systems.

    + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to develop innovative solutions in a collaborative academic setting.

    + Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to train and support faculty, staff, and student users.

    + Proven capacity to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.

    + Weekend and evening availability

    - Compiles, maintains, and analyzes institutional data in various formats

     

    - Produces reports and metrics based on department's needs; responds to time-critical ad-hoc requests

     

    - Loads, extracts, edits, and evaluates data for reporting and analytics

     

    - Maintains selected databases and document libraries, updating and ensuring data quality and accuracy

     

    - May participate in internal and external surveys as needed

     

    - May consult with others in designing methodology for research projects

     

    - Performs related duties as assigned.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    $74,490- $82,663; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
