    The USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is seeking an Instructional Lab Technician (Senior) in the Dornsife Academic Support Hub. The largest and oldest of the USC schools, USC Dornsife functions as the academic core of the university, offering courses and advancing knowledge across the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.

     

    Based on a divisional framework, Academic Services Hubs will provide staff support to approximately 35 departments across Dornsife. Each hub will serve one division and the number of departments per division varies. The mission of the Dornsife Academic Service Hubs is to provide optimal, localized support to academic departments by providing specialized services that foster the academic, instructional, and research-driven engagement of faculty, staff and students in the Dornsife community.

    Responsibilities:

    The Instructional Lab Technician (Senior) in Physical Sciences & Math will lead instructional lab tasks within the hub, which may include but will not be limited to the following:

    + Coordinate and plan lab exercises with lecturers.

    + Test and conduct experiments, exercises and demonstrations.

    + Constructs, adapts or acquires specialized lab equipment to meet specific instruction or research needs.

    + Provide technical assistance regarding pre- and post-experiment preparations and processes.

    + Maintain research facility in orderly, operable condition.

    + Control and monitor supply inventories.

    + Ensure compliance with health and safety standards of laboratory operations.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experience in higher education, specifically working in laboratory environments.

    + Ability to effectively lead lab safety procedures and compliance.

    + Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    + Experience with proper use and maintenance of lab equipment.

    Hourly range:

    The hourly rate range for this position is $30.16 - $34.40. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer alignment, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

     

    This position is on-campus.

    Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 2 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly related education and experience in area of instruction providing strong knowledge of lab protocols and safety guidelines and computerized analysis methods. Ability to plan, prioritize, organize and schedule activities to meet both short-term and long-term deadlines. Knowledge of database operations and data acquisition.
