As a Structural Engineer in our Northwest based Ports and Maritime Group, you’ll have the chance to work with our global multi-disciplinary team of engineers on waterfront and transportation projects worldwide. You’ll be involved as part of the close-knit team, leading and mentoring staff engineers, performing design, analysis, and delivery of projects ranging from local marinas to large scale international port developments.
We’ll provide you with tasks associated with performing coordination and design of both rehabilitation and retrofit projects, as well as new marine structures and facilities. We are looking for a candidate that is a self-starter and proficient in structural engineering, with the ability to self-manage their efforts through the full life cycle of a project, from concept to a finished PS&E set, and have a level of familiarity with both Bid Support and Construction Administration. We will provide an environment with Subject Matter Experts to provide QA/QC on your tasks, and will look to you to lead efforts with a small team of staff engineers, or draw from our deep bench of global talent to staff your tasks and lead efforts on cutting edge waterfront developments.. You will work on piers, wharves, transfer bridges, gangways, bulkheads, breakwaters, floating docks and marinas made from steel, aluminum, concrete, earth and timber. You will lead efforts to complete calculations in accordance with ASCE, AASHTO, ACI, AISC, IBC, NDS and PIANC using a range of finite element modelling programs. You will be given the opportunity to interface with clients and subconsultants, give presentations and work on technical proposals as necessary. We will expect you to aid in performing material takeoffs (MTOs) and Engineer’s Cost Estimates, and construction schedules for both public and private clients. This field and position will challenge you and continue to provide new and interesting engineering problems to solve. Our regional team’s portfolio currently contains projects in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, and remote locations in the South Pacific.

Hybrid home/office work schedule. Location may be in Washington, Oregon, Hawaii or Alaska.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the design and analysis of marine structures, such as piers, wharves, docks, and seawalls.
• Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
• Develop innovative solutions for complex engineering challenges.
• Prepare comprehensive PS&E packages for both public and private clients.
• Conduct site inspections and assessments to evaluate the condition of existing marine structures.
• Lead the preparation of project proposals, material take offs, and engineer’s cost estimates.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience in Structural Engineering.
• Professional Engineer License (or the ability to obtain one within one year) is required (AK, WA, OR, HI are preferred). If close to obtaining a license or scheduled for the exam, the candidate will be considered.
• Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
• In-depth knowledge of structural analysis and design principles.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and small projects independently.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PDF Software (i.e. Bluebeam, Adobe, etc.)
• Strong knowledge with relevant codes and standards (i.e. AASHTO, ASCE, AISC, ACI, IBS, NDS, PIANC).
• Expertise in finite element analysis (FEA) software (i.e. SAP2000, RISA3D, STAAD, LPile)
• Seismic design knowledge including familiarity with SDC’s and second order analysis.
• Experience in preparation of project specifications is required.
• Ample experience drafting details and putting together plan set packages in AutoCAD.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
Ideally, you'll also have:
• Masters degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
• Knowledge of port marine and landside infrastructure, operations is a plus.
• Field work and construction experience.
• Experience in designing, estimating, rehabilitation or supervising construction of marine structures and facilities
• Experience in working with port authorities and transport agencies
