    Job Overview:

    We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Civil / Structural Engineer Intern that will support the civil and structural engineering team with planning, analysis, design, and documentation of infrastructure and building projects. APTIM civil and structural engineers lend their knowledge and experience to projects for the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, the Federal Transit Administration, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, local authorities (nationwide), commercial retail companies, oil and gas providers and various coastal protection authorities. Examples of engineering work include building design, waterfront structures design, foundation design, existing structures evaluation and design (concrete, masonry, steel and heavy timber), design of temporary structures for construction activities, demolition planning, construction rigging and lifting plans, mechanical system structural support design, and aboveground storage tank systems. This internship provides hands-on exposure to real-world engineering applications under the guidance of licensed engineers. This internship offers hands-on experience working on real-world engineering projects in a collaborative, professional environment. This is a temporary position.

    Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

    + Support Senior Engineers on a variety of projects.

    + Broad application of principles, theories and concepts in civil and/or structural engineering.

    + Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

    + Contributes to a team environment.

    + Assist with civil and structural design calculations for buildings, utilities, and infrastructure projects

    + Support grading, drainage, foundation, and structural system designs

    + Prepare drawings and construction documents using AutoCAD

    + Review plans for coordination with architectural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines

    + Assist with quantity take-offs and cost estimates

    + Conduct site visits, field observations, and data collection as needed

    + Help prepare technical reports, specifications, and design narratives

    + Participate in project meetings and internal design reviews

    + Perform additional engineering support tasks as assigned

    Basic Qualifications:

    + Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

    + Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

    + Ability to work independently and in a team environment

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills

    + Some experience with technical engineering software such as STAAD or ANSYS) and AutoCad.

    + Candidate must have a firm grasp of engineering principles.

    + Exposure to AutoCAD drafting experience preferred.

    + Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA with at least 60 hours of coursework completed

    + Must be at least 18 years of age

    + Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills

    + Must be a self-starter, excel in time management, and work well under pressure

    + Candidates must be willing to travel for infrequent field assignments.

    As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $28 to $31.88 per hour. Compensation depends on several factors including: experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
