    Position Overview:

    The Mechanical Inspection/Alignment Technician performs both the alignment and inspection duties listed below. We¿re seeking a Mechanical Inspection/Alignment Technician II in the AD METSD Metrology Department.

     

    Alignment:** **Perform measurements for precise alignment of machine components using standard alignment methods, specialized optical tooling techniques and specialized metrology equipment. Perform calibration of alignment equipment.

     

    Inspection:** **Provide dimensional measurement and inspection services of fabricated accelerator parts, components, and complete assemblies. Maintenance of CMM and other inspection equipment.

    Your specific responsibilities include:

    + **Fiducialize, measure and set components with optical tooling, laser tracker and portable CMM.**

    + **Perform Network measurements with digital levels, laser trackers and wire position measurement system.**

    + **Perform field calibration of instruments. Document results and upload data into database.**

    + **Design and perform local survey setups.**

    + **Interpret measurements (best fit of geometrical shapes).**

    + **Support measurements by holding, mounting and moving scales, rods, targets.**

    + **Set up instruments, charge instrument and data recorder batteries.**

    + **Support calibration of instruments by moving equipment and setting up instruments at the test stands. Keep track of calibration due dates.**

    + **Housekeeping in storage areas and laboratories, liaison with building managers.**

    + **Drill, install wall & floor anchors and monuments.**

    + **Perform visual and mechanical inspections of simple machined parts and assemblies using tools and gages.**

     

    Given the nature of this position, SLAC will require onsite work.

    To be successful in this position you will bring:

    + **Basic Blueprint reading skills.**

    + **Ability to use Height Gauge to make simple measurements.**

    + **Ability to use manual inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, pins and ring gauges to measure and evaluate machined parts.**

    + **Operate hand tools.**

    + **Good fine motor skills to setup instrument.**

    + **Solid mathematical skills, good eyesight for optical readouts.**

    + **Basic understanding of coordinate systems.**

    + **Ability to operate calibration stands**

    + **Ability to use software to calculate best fit of geometrical shapes.**

    + **Ability to operate all available measurement systems.**

    + **Relevant alignment statistical skills, e.g. interpret residuals.**

    + **Ability to operate a motor vehicle (able to obtain a California Driving License)**

    + **Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with customers including engineering and scientific staff.**

    _The expected pay range for this position is $56.16 (Step 1) - $68.02 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Unit. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs_** **_._
