    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Husky Health Center at the University of Washington, has an outstanding opportunity for a Business Intelligence Developer to join our team.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    Reporting to the Assistant Director for Health Informatics & Data Strategy, this position will be responsible for writing and automating reports, developing dashboards, designing and administering surveys, conducting internal assessments, and related activities. Housed in the Husky Center, this position will also contribute to related efforts across the UW Division of Student Life and will provide support for requests from the Strategy Map Activation Team (SMAT).

     

    This position will work with and combine data from a variety of healthcare, student data, financial, and other sources into integrated, highly functional, actionable reports and dashboards. This position will produce robust, highly automated, low-maintenance Business Intelligence products with a long-duration service life. It will exercise significant ownership and control over these work products and will serve as a subject matter expert and consultant to non-technical colleagues with custom data reporting requirements.

    ABOUT HUSKY HEALTH:

    Husky Health Center, a division of Student Life on the UW Seattle Campus, is an AAAHC-accredited outpatient facility providing high quality health care to a wide range of individuals. Husky Health Center has 38,000 patient visits annually. Two thirds of these visits are by undergraduate and graduate students. One third of visits are by faculty, staff, retirees and others in the greater Seattle community. Husky Health is committed to supporting the UW Medicine “Patients Are First” guidelines.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Report and Dashboard Development and Automation (50%)

    + Design, build, iterate, and automate operational and clinical reports and dashboards using Epic, My FD, Power BI, Tableau, and related data sources and tools

    + Proactively engage with subject matter experts across a variety of units within the Husky Health Center and broader Student Life Division to understand individual needs and responsively develop custom solutions

    + Convert manual/ad hoc extracts into automated, reliable, schedule-driven, version-controlled BI assets (including parameterized and self-service reports)

    + Develop interactive dashboards in Power BI (or other approved platforms) that translate complex utilization, productivity, patient volume, and financial metrics into actionable views for non-technical stakeholders

    + Implement automated data flows/pipelines as necessary to feed reports and dashboards

    + Apply best practices for user interface design, readability, and accessibility in all data products

    + Apply performance optimization techniques as necessary when working with large clinical, financial, or student data sets

    + Appropriately triage and respond to requests for ad hoc reports as necessary

    + Write and maintain thorough technical documentation and non-technical end-user job aids for all data products

    + Maintain all data products through their complete lifecycle

    + Monitor and resolve data latency or quality issues

    Survey & Assessment (20%)

    + Design and administer internal assessment surveys supporting operational and strategic goals, evaluating student/patient/employee experience, and more

    + Apply best practices, ensure methodological rigor, data integrity, and data privacy

    + Build scalable survey data ingestion and normalization workflows; integrate survey outcomes into broader BI reporting footprints

    + Produce concise executive summaries for leadership briefings

    + Perform statistical analyses to determine significance of data outputs and identify themes, trends, or other inferential and descriptive summaries for leadership

    + Ability to identify and apply key performance indicators (KPIs) relevant to strategic requests for data, specifically those pertaining to student success, population health and health outcomes, and operational measures of impact within Husky Health Center and partner units in Student Life

    Data Engineering, Quality & Governance (15%)

    + Profile source data (clinical, financial, operational) to identify anomalies, gaps, or drift; document lineage and transformation logic

    + Implement automated data validation procedures, reconciliation checks, and data quality monitoring mechanisms

    + Partner with UW-IT, UW Medicine IT, and other technical teams on schema changes, access controls, data privacy, and retention/compliance standards

    Strategic & Stakeholder Collaboration (15%)

    + Meet regularly with Husky Health Center and Student Life leaders to refine requirements, prototype solutions, and align deliverables with strategic objectives

    + Translate business questions into measurable KPIs; recommend data-driven approaches with emphasis on high-automation, low-maintenance solutions

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:

    + Demonstrate initiative, professional judgment, and the ability to work independently and with others

    + Ability to maintain harmonious relationships and effectively address complex and sensitive administrative issues

    + Flexible and resourceful; high degree of professionalism and diplomacy; excellent people skills

    + Ability to operate in situations of uncertainty, troubleshoot challenges, and champion projects through completion

    + Perform other duties as assigned

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Health Informatics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Health Information Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration (analytics focus), or related quantitative field within human health

    + Two (2) years’ experience in BI development.

     

    Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications (except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration)

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    + Applicants will be asked to present a relevant Business Intelligence deliverable or data product from their personal portfolio or previous experience

    + Ability to accomplish all primary job functions without reliance on artificial intelligence tools.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Master’s degree in Data/Business Analytics, Health Informatics, Applied Statistics, Public Health (quantitative emphasis), MHA, MPH, or MBA with analytics focus

    + Three (3) years of professional experience in a related field

    + Demonstrable ability to utilize UW systems and tools to produce high-quality automated Business Intelligence and data products

    + Knowledge of UW systems and tools (embedded throughout) such as: Epic, Workday, MyFinancialDesktop, BI Portal, Tableau, SPSS, SQL Server, Enterprise Data Warehouse, Student Database, Enterprise Web Services, and others

    + Applied statistical analysis experience in healthcare, higher education, or operational contexts

    + Demonstrable experience with using scripting/programming languages such as Python in task automation and/or data pipelines

    + Ability to effectively utilize artificial intelligence tools to enhance efficiency and work product quality

     

    Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

    Pay Range Minimum:

    $80,000.04 annual

    Pay Range Maximum:

    $100,000.08 annual
