The Department of Anatomic Pathology (Digital Pathology) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Technical Specialist to join their team.
Summary:
The Technical Specialist's primary responsibility is to manage the daily technical and administrative functions of their individual laboratory section(s); ensure compliance with institutional and laboratory policies and procedures; evaluate and recommend technical methods based on clinical and financial parameters; ensure that written and approved technical procedures and documentation are maintained for each determination performed.
Responsibilities:
+ Manages day-to-day operations of the digital pathology laboratory, focusing on cohesion between teams within the lab and working with directors and department stakeholders to prioritize tasks
+ Contributes subject matter expertise to one or more of the teams
+ Observes workflows to understand contextual overview of clinical implementation, and conveys insights to teams
+ Organizes validation experiments, including interacting with pathologists and the laboratory to review cases, slides, data
+ Compiles data, performs basic statistical analyses as needed
+ Conducts basic performance testing and quality assurance
+ Creates documentation, SOPs as needed
+ Works with medical director to ensure adherence to CAP guidelines and compliance/legal requirements
Skills and Abilities:
+ Strong quantitative and analytical abilities are essential
+ Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills
+ Demonstrated interpersonal/verbal communication skills
+ Represents Penn Medicine in a consistently professional manner
Credentials:
+ Appropriate certification from ASCP (Preferred)
+ Appropriate Specialist Certification (Preferred)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
+ Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or other biological or chemical science or U.S. equivalent (substantiated by foreign credential evaluation statement) (Required)
+ Master's degree (Preferred)
+ 2+ years of clinical laboratory experience (Required)
+ Additional education and or training in Management or Lab Management (Preferred)
