    The ideal candidate is a strategic thinking, Senior Economist with deep expertise in economics, including a thorough understanding of the macroeconomy, business cycle, and its impact on the electric utility industry. This individual will lead efforts to evaluate economic activity at a national and regional level, conduct economic and demographic research, and apply this knowledge to develop national and regional economic forecasts for use in the utility planning process within TVA.

    POSITION PURPOSE

    This position is responsible and accountable for one or more of the functional areas of economic, demand and energy, delivery point, and revenue forecasting. This position also has leadership responsibilities in directing the activities of more junior employees in completing forecasting tasks, improving all facets of our forecasts, and in effectively leading teams focused on some specialized task. The incumbent is expected to complete accurate and robust forecasts and identify uncertainty around the forecasts in support of TVA’s short and long-term planning activities. In the areas of data analyses, forecasts methodologies and models, and understanding of our end-use customer behaviors and downstream customers needs, this position is expected to lead efforts that improve existing capabilities and knowledge and create new products, processes, models that keep Enterprise Forecasting on the cutting-edge of forecasting capabilities. The incumbent is responsible for building communication and collaboration channels with our customers and support organizations, understanding the big picture, expanding our knowledge base, and building technical and leadership skills.

    PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

    In Enterprise Forecasting, a Specialist I supports one or more of the following activities:

    + Production of forecasts of electricity demand in the Valley . This work includes forecasting future loads and market conditions, maintaining benchmarks of peers, and providing updates on and analysis of end-use customer behavior.

    + Forecasts of TVA base revenues, including learning current and future rate structures, improving revenue models, and translating system energy and peak forecasts into wholesale sales forecasts

    + NERC, SERC and other regulatory reporting, which comprises understanding regulatory objectives and requirements.

    + Development of economic forecasts for the TVA region consisting of analyses of demographic and economic indicator data, trending historical data and developing a narrative of underlying drivers to economic activity.

    + Creating coincident and non-coincident peak forecasts of TVA’s delivery points to local power companies for transmission planning purposes.

    + Developing methods and models for normalizing energy and peak loads temporal and weather effects.

    + Weekly and monthly forecasting processes to support recurring activities at TVA.

    + Describing risks to forecasts using quantitative or statistical methods.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education- Bachelors degree in economics, engineering, finance, mathematics or comparable related field of study is required. An advanced degree in any of these fields is desirable.

     

    Experience- Minimum of 8 years of work experience. Experience in system or transmission planning, economic or load forecasting, data analysis, statistics or other related work experience is desirable.

     

    Certification/License, etc.- N/A

     

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities- The incumbent should understand the basics principles of accounting, economics, engineering, finance, and electric utility planning and operations, as well as model development and risk analysis. Proficiency in oral and written communications is necessary, as well as, Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. Some experience in software such as MatLab, Tableau, R, REMI, or ITRON Metrix tools is preferred.
