Estimator — Commercial Construction
Position Summary
Join a well-established construction firm with over a century of experience, advanced management systems, and a strong local footprint. We are seeking a detail-oriented Estimator to support pre-construction teams in delivering accurate, competitive cost models for commercial projects across sectors like healthcare, retail, manufacturing, and education.
Responsibilities
+ Develop detailed cost estimates through quantity take-offs, material requirements, and scheduling insights.
+ Review and interpret project plans, specs, and design documents for constructability and code compliance.
+ Solicit, compare, and validate bids from reputable subcontractors and vendors.
+ Craft alternate take-off scenarios and pricing options to support value engineering.
+ Participate in estimate reviews, update cost models based on feedback, and archive historical data.
+ Maintain current market intelligence on material, labor, and equipment pricing.
+ Onboard new trade partners to expand vendor networks.
+ Coordinate hand-offs with superintendents, project managers, and field engineers.
+ Attend pre-bid meetings and assist with project interviews as needed.
Essential Skills
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project), On-Screen Takeoff, and PDF editing (e.g., Bluebeam).
+ Strong analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
+ Exceptional attention to detail and quality assurance focus.
+ Ability to manage multiple estimates under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
+ Adaptable, reliable, and organized, with outstanding communication skills.
+ Comfortable interacting with vendors, trade partners, and internal stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or related field (preferred).
+ Experience using BIM or construction management software (e.g., Procore, Autodesk).
+ Knowledge of LEED/green building practices and self-performing trades is a plus.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sioux Falls, SD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $48.00/hr.
