Description
The City of Garden City is accepting applications for Inventory Technician with the Electric Department. This position is responsible for the City of Garden City electric utility’s material inventory and related records. Inventory of pole yard, transformers and specialty tools. Process salvaged and recyclable materials. Schedule and record equipment maintenance and repairs. Develop and maintain cost effective processing procedures.
Examples of Duties
+ Responsible for the Electric Department and Water inventory and related records, pole yard and tool crib. Process salvaged and recyclable materials. Schedule and record equipment maintenance and repairs, truck and tool safety testing. Maintain developed cost-effective processing procedures.
+ Responsible for maintaining and restocking all hardware and recycling all used and scrap material.
+ Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean warehouse, shop areas and pole yard (excluding office and restroom areas).
+ Environmental oil, wipe and soil sample testing. Pulls and prepares environmental oil samples from transformer not in use, as well as prepares wipe and soil samples for analytical testing. Prepares chain of custody for environmental samples to be sent to certified lab for analytical lab testing. Responsible for maintaining analytical test reports for the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) laws and yearly audit. Assists in insuring proper procedures are used for any possible PCB spills, preparing spill reports and clean up procedures and reporting to the EPA if required.
+ Responsible for the department’s Hazard Communication compliance with Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) records.
+ Assists Superintendent with ordering and maintaining all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to be in compliance with organizational safety regulations, the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
+ Responsible for OSHA compliances within the warehouse and pole yard.
+ Operates oil pumping equipment, bobcat and any other pieces of equipment, as needed for warehouse operations.
+ Order goods & services, such as materials, equipment, tools & parts. Research products and shop for the most efficient material. Approve invoices for payment.
+ Prepares requisitions. Talk with vendors to obtain product & service information, price availability & delivery schedule. Discuss defective or unacceptable goods.
+ Assists Superintendent in determining whether material should be purchased directly or through a bid process. Prepares bid requests, as directed.
+ Assist with answering the phones, helping customers/electricians & processing job orders. Stocking & maintaining vending machine.
+ Continuously monitor and maintain inventory. Assists auditors during the year end audit.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Warehouse operations, inventory control including ordering, receiving, and processing electric utility parts and materials. Ability to operate and maintain warehouse software for shipping and receiving. Maintain accurate records, exercise good judgment in determining material selection and pricing. Digger derrick, forklift and pallet lift, hand tools, copy and fax machines, calculator, office computer with MS Windows, ACCESS, MS Word and occasionally, a typewriter.
Education, Certification and Experience: High school diploma or GED; and 5 years’ experience to include warehouse inventory control, records keeping, on-time ordering and computer proficiency; a background in Environmental Control is preferred, but a combination of education and experience will be considered. A Commercial Driver’s License is required or must have the ability to acquire one within 6 months. Must obtain a Kansas Driver’s License within 60 days of establishing residency.
Supplemental Information
Environment: Work is performed in all types of weather. Majority of work is indoors in the warehouse. On occasion will work outdoors in all types of weather. Extreme, moderate and temperate heat and cold; hail, snow, winds, sand, ice, mud and dust.
Surfaces: Wood, asphalt, concrete, tile (inside). Outdoor surfaces include asphalt, concrete, sand, gravel, dirt and grass.
Physical Characteristics: Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. on a regular basis; push, pull, sit, type, write, drive, stand for extended periods, climb ladders, reach, sit and kneel.
