This Police Lieutenant & Operation Officer (Police Lieutenant - A) is a senior-level law enforcement official who assists the Chief of Police with the daily administration, leadership, supervision, and coordination of the University Police Department. The Lieutenant provides operational oversight and direction to sworn personnel, including indirect supervision of Sergeants and Police Officers, ensuring compliance with University policies, state/federal law, and law enforcement standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of law enforcement experience.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties
+ Assists the Chief of Police with administrative planning, departmental operations, personnel supervision, and policy development.
+ Provides indirect supervision and leadership to Sergeants, Police Officers, and support personnel to ensure adherence to established law enforcement procedures and professional conduct standards.
+ Serves as the department’s primary coordinator for Clergy Act reporting, including data collection, crime classification, and preparation of the Annual Security Report.
+ Oversees and facilitates Title IX-related law enforcement response, ensuring timely documentation, case coordination, and compliance with federal and University guidelines.
+ Reviews incident reports for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with investigative standards.
+ Coordinates and maintains accurate statistical crime data; collaborates with campus departments, Student Affairs, Housing, Human Resources, and Title IX Coordinator as necessary.
+ Develops and delivers training programs for campus safety, report writing, incident response, and compliance procedures.
+ Assists with scheduling, shift coverage planning, employee evaluations, and professional development.
+ Represents the University Police Department at internal and external meetings or committees as assigned.
+ Serves as Acting Chief of Police when designated.
+ Other duties as assigned.

Appointment Type: This will be filled as a Probational appointment.
Work Schedule: 8:00am - 5:00pm
Salary Range: $52,520 - $106,309 annually
